March, 2010

Move over plaid – florals have taken top shelf as the look ‘o the season. Bold bouquets of bright blooms have sprouted up on everything from flirty summer dresses to pretty printed handbags to ruffled, flowered flats.

Not sure that begonias are becoming?  Before you pass on the pansies, take note, this trend is taking root and sticking around, and, it’s not as intimidating as it looks.  Worn wrong, yes – it conjures images of your grandmother’s upholstered couch or an old-school Little House on the Prairie throwback.  But, worn right, feminine florals are fresh and bubbly – an unexpected pop of lively style that reeks of confidence and that elusive “put togethered-ness”.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

It is Fashion Week here in Los Angeles, or more like Fashion Month, and the opening number was a sneak peek at the spring styles soon to be racked at bebe.

Hachette Filipacchi Media, Kia Motors America and bebe presented the second annual MOD: Matters On Design on Saturday, March 13, 2010. The full day event consisted of ride-and-drive experiences of the all-new 2011 Kia Sorento CUV, a modern art and décor lounge that featured interactive artworks by C.A.V.E. Gallery Venice Beach, as well as an evening bebe fashion show.

Trend alert: Scads of neon bright opaque tights and leggings covered the gams of all the models and gave each style a little color boost; think aqua, magenta, lime and tangerine. …CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Pretty up your look this year with the season’s hottest print – the polka dot.  No longer relegated to the under 8 set, refresh your perspective and take a second look at this edgy, sweet, and yes – even sexy – trend.  Punchy and girly, polka dots are a retro throwback to the 50s that conjure images of tiny waists and the thrill of a drive-in movie, and to this we say – delish.
Still nervous that someone might mistake you for a Disney princess?  Balance the look with strategic pieces that will ground those spots in grown-up land, and keep them off the jungle gym.  Here’s a few ways this might look CLICK HERE FOR MORE

It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your hose.  Spring is not only about bright colored tights, it’s also, always, about bare legs and pretty painted toes.  Get your pedicures on the books and pay some attention to your sandal and summer heels collection.

Wondering what will be the must-have new addition to your shoe closet for 2010?  Without hesitation, snip you up some new peek-a-boo cutouts.   Fresh off the catwalk, geometric glimpses of skin (i.e. cutouts) are making a play for trend star of the year – showing through on everything from handbags to sunglasses to daring “is that thing pasted on” cocktail dresses – and nowhere is this look more clever than on your feet.   Like a cookie cutter gone wild, the look is punched out shapes – triangles, circles, and even squares – that reveal a sexy sneak peek of your glowing tan.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

Gerard Butler, Paul Haggis and Lee Daniels at Artists for Peace & Justice hosted by Brioni & Vanity Fair

Brioni and Vanity Fair supported Artists for Peace & Justice, dressing celebrity attendees like host Gerard Butler, Ben Stiller, Jon Hamm, and Paul Haggis. Other guests included; Producer Ryan Kavanaugh, Actress Olivia Wilde, Cuba Gooding Jr, Diane Lane, Hayden Panettiere, Kristen Bell, Maria Bello, and Terri Seymour. The fashionable crowd aimed to raise awareness and funds for Haiti.

Artists for Peace & Justice, established in early 2009, is a fundraising effort founded by Paul Haggis and friends that encourages peace and social justice and addresses issues of poverty and enfranchisement in communities around the world. The organization’s immediate goal is to build schools to serve the poorest areas of Haiti, providing an education, hot meals, clean drinking water and regular medical treatments to the children living in the slums. www.artistsforpeaceandjustice.com

It just shows you that once again, the most stylish people are those who are concerned about the scene around the world and using fashion and media to bring together hope is something we can all feel good about. When you buy Brioni you know you’re buying a product that gives back to those in need. Luxury can in fact make a difference.

Summit On The Summit Climbers

Summit On The Summit Climbers

Style is not just about what you wear, or where you go, its about what you do.  Our friend Kenna, a very stylish musician, also wears his heart on his sleeve and after seeing the natives where his father was born struggle for something as simple as clean water, he decided to do something about it. Kenna, Lupe Fiasco and Santigold, along with Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas all climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, this last January, in an effort to raise awareness for clean water.

Summit on the Summit, the documentary, made its debut on MTV. Seek it out, the scene is powerful and the style comes from the inside out in a beautiful way.  Justin Timberlake hosts and has been a supporter all the way, brands like HP and PUR made Kenna’s dream a reality and all of us should do our part to get into this scene.
