ABOUT THE JUSTICE BALL

The Justice Ball all started in 1996 as the brain child of Randall Kaplan. The first Justice Ball was a sellout and took place at the House
of Blues with over 1,200 guests. Now in its 14th year, the Justice Ball continues to be a sell-out event. The Ball has featured some
incredible live performances, including Billy Idol, Macy Gray, The Go-Go’s and DJ AM all while raising over 4 million dollars for
Bet Tzedek – The House of Justice.

The Justice Ball, now in its 14th year, has evolved into one of Bet Tzedek’s primary annual fundraisers. Bet Tzedek actually means
“The House of Justice” in Hebrew. Ensuring “equal justice for all” has been the rallying cry of Bet Tzedek since it was founded in 1974.
The firm provides free legal services that address many of life’s basic necessities including: • consumer right • elder law • housing •
public benefits • worker’s rights

Each year, Bet Tzedek’s staff and its army of 1,000 volunteer attorneys and paralegals serve nearly 12,000 people of all racial and religious
backgrounds. The Bet Tzedek model has worked so well, it has become one of the leading public interest law firms in the country.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The Hollywood Palladium

Built expressly for the purpose of showcasing live music, The Hollywood Palladium opened its doors in October 1940 with a concert by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring the soon to be famous Frank Sinatra. In those days, the Palladium was the place to be seen for celebrities and wildly popular with local music and dance fans as well.

The venue received a total renovation of all interior and exterior areas including a new façade that emulates the building’s original
architecture, expanded concessions, upgraded restrooms, improved interior lighting, as well as brand new paint and carpeting, all of
which are congruent with the venue’s original look. In addition, major upgrades have been made to the stage infrastructure which will
enable the venue to accommodate larger, modern productions. Sound experts are revamping the acoustic treatments on the inside of
the venue, which is expected to give music fans the best concert experience possible.

In 1961 the venue became a television studio and over the years has served as the location for such award shows as the Emmy Awards,
The Grammy Awards, The NAACP Awards and Country Music Awards. Eventually the venue returned to its musical roots, hosting many
of the biggest names in rock and roll throughout the decades, including everyone from The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Led Zeppelin,
The Who and Rod Stewart to The Police, The Replacements, The Clash, Public Enemy, Metallica, Jane’s Addiction, The Pixies, Beastie
Boys, No Doubt and Red Hot Chili Peppers, just to name a few.

This summer, The Hollywood Palladium will host the Justice Ball for the fourth time, more than any other venue in Los Angeles.

Brittani Wills in Springboro, Ohio.

In a town of cookie cutter homes, a population just over 12,000, and where Friday night football takes precedence over everything else, you might not expect style to be to be on the minds of residents at all.  However, that’s not necessarily the case in Springboro, Ohio. While the latest fashion trends fresh off of the runway aren’t necessarily seen gracing the halls of Springboro High School or on moms at the school PTA meeting, personal style is still ever present here.

Magnolia's on Main shop in Historic Downtown Springboro.

Springboro is nestled in the Southern-western corner of the Buckeye state. The small town, founded by Quakers in the 1800s, is full of hometown pride. Downtown Springboro, which spans 6 blocks, includes a few quaint shops, historical buildings that were once a part of the Underground Railroad, and a drive-in restaurant that is a local favorite. Over the past decade or so Springboro has been made a gradual change from a rural farming town to a sprawling suburb. As new families move in to and make Springboro their home, they also bring a piece of the style and fashions from their previous towns, which contributes to the overall flavor of Springboro.

Style in this midwestern town could easily be described as All-American. During the summer months when temperatures reach 100+ degrees and the humidity is almost unbearable, function definitely takes place over fashion. Shorts of all lengths and styles tend to be the most popular item.   Teenagers and younger residents like to have a little more fun with their looks, while the more mature crowd tends to keep it simple. Neon and other fun colors pop up in accessories and tops worn by those in the school-age crowd. Mixing patterns and colors also makes looks more playful and fitting for the age group. Older, high school and college students usually wear more classic pieces such as khaki shorts and basic tops. However, details in clothing such as ruffles or texture keep the looks from becoming too bland.

Stores like Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and Aeropostale are crowd favorites in Springboro. These specialty retailers all offer basics that can appeal to a variety of  a variety of age groups and . Stores that offer somewhat trendier items, like Forever 21 and Pacific Sunwear, are also popular among Springboro residents. High fashion is not on the forefront of minds here, primarily because of limited access to stores like Barneys New York.

As I prepare to leave my hometown of Springboro and head to the Los Angeles area to pursue my career in fashion, I’m taking a bit of classic, Springboro style with me. I’ve watched my own style evolve during my 4 years in college from that off an 18-year old high school grad to a more style-conscious young woman. Writing for Style Seen Daily and being immersed in the fashion industry of L.A. will no doubt play a large part in my style in the future, but Springboro and the midwest is a part of me that won’t be left behind. Personal style is something that is constantly changing and no matter what city you’re in, there is something to offer.

Stand at attention!  Time to march right into some great military inspired fashions.  This look is versatile and functional, letting you easilty mix and match pieces.  Military green is very hot right now, and will continue to gain popularity come this Fall 2010.

Look for utilitarian embelishments, like large buttons, chest pockets and structured shoulders.  Also shrunken jackets that are tailored to the body, shirts that tie at the waist, and cargo pants that are cut slim. But take note, this military trend is not as hard edge as in the past, don’t be afraid to soften the look by also mixing in ruffles and yes even florals.
