Kenna & Chains

Do you like Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and Mark Ronson? Yes?  Well of course you do, and knowing that you do it’s pretty safe to say you trust their taste in music they enjoy and not just the songs they play – so you must check out the newest song from Kenna, CHAINS, why? because these guys say so.  Pharrell signed him, Ronsan made music with him, Kayne credited him as being the best musician the world did not yet know and..

“What the world needs to hear they just don’t know it yet” said Timberlake, and then recently he posted via his Twitter account @JTimberlake “check out @OKKenna new video for ‘Chains’” adding “It’s important for the future of ur life that u do it now.”

So what is the fuss about? Check out the video for yourself and see:

Timberlake has been a supporter for years, having Kenna open for he and Nelly Furtado, at Live Earth at The Giants Stadium and supporting his philanthropic endeavors where he hosted Kenna’s Summit on the Summit documentary airing on MTV when he could not do the climb as a result of his filming of “Social Network.”  Summit on the Summit is an ascent to raise awareness of the global clean water crisis. Last year Kenna, Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch, Lupe Fiasco, Santigold, Isabel Lucas, as well as many major cultural influencers, climbed Tanzania’s Mt. Kilimanjaro and not only raised awareness of the global clean water crisis, but also to raise funds for The Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Water For People International.

All funds raised were managed and distributed through the United Nations Foundation, the project’s charitable advisors. Kenna’s plan to make a difference for the world has personal meaning as his father was deeply affected by water-borne illness as a child in Ethiopia and his uncle had passed away from a related illness as well. The expedition was documented and produced by Radical Media, Procter & Gamble Productions and Kenna’s strategy company GODEL Inc., then aired on MTV.

Following the climb, in response to the tragic events in Haiti that happened as the team was returning to the US, Lupe Fiasco and Kenna, along with producer Mike Shinoda released the song Resurrection to help raise money for the victims of the quake.

His critically acclaimed 2003 debut album New Sacred Cow put him on the map with musicans around the world, and the late-2007 release of Make Sure They See My Face showed Kenna a dark side of the music industry as he was passed around from label to label till finally Neptunes’ stepped in and Chad Hugo co-produced both of Kenna’s albums. His song “Freetime” earned him a MTV VMA Breakthrough Video nomination.

N.E.R.D., Mark Ronson and Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan added Kenna, who’d previously opened for No Doubt to their tours.

Author Malcolm Gladwell, devoted a chapter to Kenna in his 2005 best-seller BLINK, “Kenna’s Dilemma”, stating the irony behind why Kenna couldn’t maintain a major-label deal saying :”the guy’s basically too inspired to pin down and too multi-talented to tie up in a neat, happy little marketing package.”

His sophomore album tinged with that interplanetary Neptunes touch, seem to come from another universe, the Neptunes produced “Say Goodbye To Love” and garnered a Grammy nomination off of that album.

You will become a fan, if you’re not already.
