Fashion, Decade After Decade

Cameron Silver

Most New Yorkers, arguably North America’s fashion capital, say Angeleno’s lack in style, we of course disagree and prove it with one of my favorite fashion Icons, local Angeleno Cameron Silver. Cameron’s always wearing art. Even in jeans he makes that casual outfit comparable to a painted canvas, and with his passion for fashion, he shares this gift with everyone. He is unequivocally the Duke of Melrose, the King of Vintage, Angeleo’s pre-eminent purveyor of Fashion and co-owner of all pre-loved luxury fashion at his boutique Decades on Melrose. So we were excited when he decided to finally publish his knowledge and pen a book; Decades: A Century of Fashion. For Decades, pun intended, he has been styling fashionista’s and those in training, with unique pieces he’s carefully collected, purchased and rejuvenated throughout the years.

Understanding his history as an entertainer first and obsessed fashion fan second, makes it all make sense. He “loves the feeling of making a women feel fabulous” and appreciates the history, craft, art, design and style, not just of the past but current and looking into the future as well. In his new gorgeous oversized “coffee table” book, he takes us through each decade in fashion pulling his favorite designer from each era and sharing beautiful (some never seen before) images of their work and that of many others.

Cameron narrates each decade of the twentieth century, delving into each era with references, images, notes, stories and of course contradictions – many of which leave us puzzled for a moment as so many styles look current, but yet are vintage. Every section of the book reads like a walk through a museum and echoes the voices of long past icons like Josephine Baker and Zelda Fitzgerald, Jackie O and Calvin Klein. It reads much like a fashion bible should with designer sketches, inspirations, models, actresses, trends, favorite picks, interviews, editors and of course celebrated designers themselves. A treasure for any lover of style icons and inspirations, history and present fashion with visual stories that inspire across ten chapters.

If you have not had the chance to meet Cameron or visit Decades, reading this book will make you understand why Time Magazine named Cameron one of the “25 Most Influential Names & Faces in Fashion” and the more you learn, the more you will love! Much like his clients Nicole Kidman, Rachel Zoe, and Katie Holmes. Not only does Decades Boutique give you access to the best closets in the world, he has designed his own collection of denim, co-designed a clothing line with the iconic Dita von Teese and is currently filing his own television show while continuing to write for Harpers Bazaar, C Magazine and providing commentary on US television for fashion.  Cameron lives in Los Angeles with his business and life partner, together they entertain regularly, scour private clients homes for incredible vintage finds, dress women and men all over the world, and make a massive impact on local and national charitable organizations such as The Art of Elysium and L.A.N.D.
