DIY: Best Homemade Heart Coco

Wether you’re in the snowstorms, rain, wind or just want to cozy up with a warm treat, here is the best hot chocolate recipe with option for a marshmallow heart treat.  Buy your favorite bittersweet or semisweet chocolate bar and whatever type of milk you like ( you can use almond or soy but it won’t be as thick ), if you prefer richer than milk, use half-and-half, or substitute cream for a portion of the milk.

Use 2 ounces chocolate for every cup of milk, for measuring without a scale, use the example of Ghirardelli chocolate which is packed in 4-ounce bars, perfect for two cups. Break up the chocolate into small pieces and put in a sauce pan with whichever milk you prefer, enough for three cups if you are making two cups, as some burns off, once its to a boil pour into cups and sprinkle sea salt inside for added sweetness.  If whipped cream isn’t your thing, you can sprinkle cinnamon into a heart shape for a cute decoration. Or for a more indulgent treat which will really spruce of the presentation, maybe for that special someone, or a surprise for your kids, top with whipped cream hearts.

All you need is here:

1 pint heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup sugar

1. Place cream, vanilla and sugar into your mixing bowl. Using whisk attachment mix until stiff peaks form.

2. Transfer whipped cream to a shallow baking dish. Smooth cream as much as possible. Place dish into freezer until firm.

3. Using a heart cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes.

4. Place hearts on top of your hot chocolate.
