Shoes On Your Feet & People You’ll Love To Meet

Over the past few years Angeleno’s have felt an infusion of Aussie’s in town, and not just on the silver screen, but behind the scenes and in fashion too. I couldn’t be happier about this because every Aussie I meet is full of joy, love and laughter, they know how to have a damn good time and be a good “mate!” So when I got to know the co-founders of the fun fashion footwear line Mara & Mine it was no surprise they’re everything I’ve come to expect, and with really cool kicks.

Jasmine Yarbrough and Tamie Ingham, best friends, business partners and housemates, took Los Angeles in full heartedly and brought us clever sandals and unisex slippers we LOVE! You may recognize the “skulls” from the feet of Cara Delevingne, Lupe Fiasco, Chanel Iman, Julianne Hough, Jessica Alba, or Dianna Agron, all have been spotted rocking’ these kicks, we caught up with the globe trotting, hard working gals to get some insight into their brand.  Recently they’ve expanded to creating custom made slippers, launching this year at the fashion trade shows, I laughed and loved the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) pair here:

SSD: Where did the idea for your line start? What was the inspiration and vision originally? How has that changed, if at all?

M&M: Considering we both had fashion backgrounds we wanted to continue in the fashion industry. Jasmine was an international model and Tamie a fashion stylist, we both wanted to create chic, wearable shoes to be worn on the job whilst both running to castings and being on set. On one of our trips together we were inspired by the European women’s style and flair. They were all sporting flats and looking glamorous. Our line started out with sandals and slippers but now the majority of our line is based around smoking slippers and espadrilles.

SSD: What is the best story to date that made you feel proud of Mara & Mine?
M&M: Our proudest moment to date would have to have been when Cara Delevingne was spotted wearing our shoes in the streets of London. Cara is ruling the fashion world at the moment. She walks for every major fashion house and has graced so many of our favorite magazine covers so for such a fashion icon to have worn our shoes definitely made us proud.
SSD: Who are your clients?
M&M: We have clients around the world. UK, USA and Australia of course.
SSD: Who is your style icon?
M&M: Jasmine’s is Kate Moss because she just always looks cool and edgy. Tamie loves french women’s style, chic and classic. Carine Roitfeld is one of her icons.
SSD: What is the best advice anyone have given you that has helped with Mara & Mine?
M&M: Believe in your instincts
SSD: What is the biggest obstacle that you have had to overcome to really start putting together Mara & Mine?
M&M: Trying to find the right manufacturer that worked for us. We had to trial a few!
SSD: What truly inspires you?
M&M: Learning from professionals in the industry
SSD: Define STYLE:
M&M: Style is confident and happy.
SSD: When you are feeling defeated or having a negative moment, what do you do to get out of the funk?
M&M: We rely on each other to get out of ‘the funk’ we pick each other up in tough times.
SSD: Do you have a mantra or a meditation you feel best describes your life philosophy?
M&M: Treat people how you want to be treated. We believe in Karma.
SSD: What is the one thing you want your consumers to know?
M&M: Our products are all hand made with luxurious leathers imported from Italy.
