Marisa Tomei on the red carpet at the Oscars 2011 in Hollywood.

Celebrity Make Up Artist Matthew Vanleeuwen created presenter Marisa Tomei’s red carpet look for the 83rd annual Oscar awards.  We here at Style Seen Daily show you step by step how you too can get this look.

How To Get Marisa Tomei’s Look

For Marisa Tomei's gorgeous red carpet look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen worked exclusively with Anastasia Beverly Hills product.

For Marisa Tomei’s gorgeous red carpet look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen worked exclusively with Anastasia Beverly Hills product

Matthew took the Anastasia Highlighting Crème Duo in St Tropez (image #1) dipped into the crème blush and applied it in gentle back and forth sweeps across Marisa’s smiling cheeks. (Pro tip: smiling makes the job mistake proof, because it helps the blush go where it’s supposed to). Using the same brush, Matthew dipped into the highlighting crème and brushed the tops of the lips and nose with the illuminating fluid.  The skin was “so translucent and smooth looking.”

Turning to brows, Matthew filled and shaped Marisa’s with Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil in Brunette (image #2) and created a few feathery strokes in the brow and to define the bottom edge of the brow.

Matthew then took Anastasia Brow Duality Pencil (image #3) and placed a bit of the matte highlighter just at the arch of the brow. The total effect is ultra defined and crisp brows that perfectly frame the face.

Moving to the eyes, Matthew took Anastasia Illumin8 Eye Shadow Palette 1 (image #4) and dusted the soft pink sorbet shadow all over the eye to brighten and tone the skin. Matthew raved that “the shadow is so smoothing and imparts a modern velvety texture.”

Then Matthew took Illumin8 palette 3 (image #5) and blended the mauve shade into the crease “to create the perfect shade of orchid.”  Next, Matthew lined the eye with a thin line of black pencil and smudged the sparkly blue/black shadow from Illumin8 palette #3 into the lashline to create a softer, smokey eyeline.

The eye makeup was finished by curling the lashes and applying two coats of Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara (image #6), which Matthew says “has reached cult status with many of my clients…it’s incredible.”
Finally to finish Marisa’s stunning look, Matthew applied Anastasia Hydrafull Lip Gloss in Sangria (image #7), a gorgeous soft amethyst berry shade.

Country Music Sensation and Now CoverGIrl Spokeswoman Taylor Swift behind the scenes at her first campaign shoot for new luxe line of beauty products. Jan. 2011.

The 21 year old country sensation Taylor Swift is now a CoverGirl, promoting the new CoverGirl NaturalLuxe Line.  She glams it up for the cameras in her first CoverGirl spot with fiery red lips while dancing in a shiny gold gown.

Swift is a natural beauty who likes to have fun with her make up.  The one thing that Swift sticks to with her make up routine is her black liquid eyeliner.  It’s her signature look and she doesn’t dare go in public without it.  She proved her die hard love for her black liner with this story she shared with Styelist.com:

“When I was on a plane to Japan like two years ago…and I had no makeup with me, I went to the bathroom and used a Sharpie! I do not recommend drawing eyeliner on with a Sharpie,” said Swift.

Now that’s some black liner dedication.  We all have our share of make up disasters, you live and you learn.  And our girl Taylor has risen to the top of the beauty game by becoming a CoverGirl Spokeswoman and joins such beautiful and inspirational women as Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Ellen DeGeneres. Check out Taylor’s first commercial here:

This CoverGirl NatureLuxe line that Taylor is representing is targeted to a more “affluent” customer who has a liking to the “natural” beauty options.  This NatureLuxe contains a Silk Foundation and Gloss Balm which are both made of natural ingredients.  The foundation contains jojoba and rosehip extracts and cucumber water, and the balm is made with mango butter, shea, and other gydrating butters.  There is no oils or synthetics.

Also, the packaging for this line is more green friendly with part of the packaging made with bioresin – a renewable, sugarcane-derived plastic.

Angelina Jolie rocks the red lips.

The hottest accessory to your fall wardrobe?  Your bright red lips.  Maybe you’ve never dared to be so forward with your makeup, or maybe you aren’t sure that this timeless shade is really your color.  Whatever your qualms of the past–this season, give it a whirl—take a peek at our “how-to-pick-the-best-shade” tips and try it on.

Here’s our basic, red lips tips:

First, according to the “Lipstick Queen”, Poppy King, creator of the Lipstick Queen brand lipsticks,  the right red will make your hair, skin and eyes light up.  Try on lipstick with no other makeup on—if it is flattering with a naked face, it’s a winning shade.

Next—to really nail the raring-to-go red look and keep it modern—keep any other makeup you wear that day very minimal.  Keep your eyes simple and understated, and consider going without blush, or just with a hint of bronzer.

Last, remember to use a lip primer and, gasp, a lip liner to keep your lipstick from feathering or bleeding outside of your natural lip line.  Finish by lining lips lightly with concealer to keep your lipstick lines crisp and make the look really pop.

Now on to the fun part—the shopping:

Cool-Aid

A cool tone red from M.A.C at Los Cerritos Center ($14.50, MAC Red).

If you’re fair complected or have cool skin undertones—choose reds with blue or cool undertones as well.  Think berries, cherry red, plum reds and deep wine reds.  Here’s a one of our favorite cool undertoned lipsticks from M.A.C at Los Cerritos Center ($14.50, MAC Red).

Warm-Blooded

A warm toned red from Hourglass found at Sephora in Stonewood Center ($30, Raven).

If you have olive skin, or warm undertones, you’ll want to pick shades of red with….you guessed it, warm undertones.  These will have orange or brown highlights to them—like fire-engine red, brick or even poppy red.  Here are is a warm toned red from Hourglass found at Sephora in Stonewood Center ($30, Raven).

Classic Color

A neutral red from Clarins in Nordstrom at The Oaks ($24, Rouge Prodige).

Still not sure about rocking the red this fall?  Color combinations sound precarious?

Reach for the red that never goes out of style—what’s called a true red.  This is a neutral red that is universally flattering and most every brand has a version of it.  Approach any makeup counter and ask for their true red, they can point one out for you.   Here’s an example from Clarins in Nordstrom  at The Oaks ($24, Rouge Prodige).

Kris Kardashian with Leslie Tyler at her Leslie Tyler Cosmetics event.

Leslie Tyler, founder of Leslie Tyler Cosmetics, is a Houstonian socialite and calls the world her home.  This mother of two and wife travels the globe attending fashion shows, red carpets, and beauty events.  Leslie aligns herself were our mission here at Style Seen Daily to help share ways for people to look and feel their best.   Leslie put together some beauty tips for us to help you become red carpet glam for those special occasions that are sure to  make the photo album…

Leslie’s Red Carpet and Special Occasion Beauty Tips

Don’t change your skin care products during the couple of weeks leading up to the event.  You never know how your skin will react.

Don’t get a facial right before the event.  Give at least one week of time between a facial and a big event. The more problematic your skin, the more time you need between your facial and your party.

Don’t allow your lashes to look clumpy.  It’s distracting. Brush your lashes (with a lash brush) after each application.

Don’t let your hair take away the attention from you!  Avoid updos if they are not done by a pro or practice, practice, practice if you are doing it yourself.

Avoid too much body glitter & glow.  It can make you look sweaty.

Do keep your brows neat. Plucking your eyebrows is a task that takes time to master. A trip to a professional for a good wax & pluck is well worth the time and money spent.

Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!

Do choose a hue that you are comfortable with. Bright colored gowns and dresses stand out but if you are not used to wearing them, don’t!

If you are going sleeveless toned arms say ‘I’m hot!” Do some extra arm exercises at least 30 days leading up to the event.

Smile!

and…Remember, the most important thing you can wear is self confidence.

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer arrives for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Los Angeles. Anna's on trend with the gold and black pairing. Alexander McQueen dress.

The 62nd Primetime EMMY Awards Show hosted by the amazingly talented and funny host Jimmy Fallon brought Hollywood out in full force.  And while Fallon did a great job entertaining the crowd with his guitar, we here at Style Seen Daily couldn’t help but notice the trend in up do fashions, highlighting the neck.  Celebrities like Anna Paquin, Christina Hendricks, Heidi Klum and more all rocked the red carpet with their hair pulled back.

How To Get Anna Paquin’s Hairstyle

When it came to creating an Emmys hairstyle for Anna Paquin, stylist Renato Campora knew just where to look for inspiration: her Alexander McQueen gown. “The dress is very strong, and I wanted to show off her shoulders and neck,” he explains. “I didn’t want her hair to seem too severe, so I created a loose structure.”

First, Renato worked the lightweight Frédéric Fekkai Full Volume Mousse through Anna’s damp hair. To keep her hair smooth and prevent flyaways, he worked in Fekkai Silky Straight Smooth Finish serum before blow-drying hair. Try Frédéric Fekkai Coiff Contrôle – Ironless Straightening Balm and instead of using a brush, use your fingers.

When Anna’s hair was dry, Renato used a curling iron with a ½-inch barrel to create waves, then pinned the hair to let the curls set for 15 minutes. Then, he ran his fingers through the underside of her hair, pulled her hair back and created a French twist. He created a bit of volume at the top of Anna’s hair by gently pushing it with his hands, then securing it with bobby pins. Finally, he sprayed hair with Frédéric Fekkai Coiff Fini – Sheer Hold Hairspray. “It’s a modern, soft look,” Renato says.

Jessalyn Gilsig of 'Glee' arrives at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Los Angeles. You can never go wrong with a red dress on the red carpet.

Betty White arrives at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Los Angeles. Thumbs up to Betty for dressing age appropriate and still on trend with white looking chic and elegant, perfect for an awards show.

Christina Hendricks arrives for the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Los Angeles. La La Lavander!

Heidi Klum and Seal arrive at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, in Los Angeles. Our favorite red carpet couple by far, these two can truly do no wrong.

Bosworth, Bailey & Williams

Christopher Bailey is Chief Creative Director of Burberry, responsible for the brands image including all advertising, corporate art direction, store design of all 100+ retail locations and visuals, as well as design of all product lines and collections.  154 years ago, when Burberry was born, they become famous for making the trenchcoat more fashionable than ever before, and now, after dominating the fashion scene for longer than any of us reading this have been alive, there is a new launch, Burberry Beauty.

Burberry Beauty Products

Bailey, who is credited for transforming Burberry into a billion-dollar global powerhouse, and decided it was time to develop and launch the brands first make up collection.  In celebration of the launch, Baliey traveled to New York, San Francisco, and our home town Los Angeles – where we were fortunate to meet up with him at the former home of Tom Cruise in Bel Air – thanks to our amazing friend Lauryn Flynn, Director of VIP & Music Relations at Burberry.

Burberry Beauty Launch - Tea in Bel Air

Bailey hosted the Brit-inspired tea party in the private garden poolside, and the dining room became a cosmetics counter.  Among the 70 or so guests were May Anderson, Kate Bosworth, Serena Williams, Lake Bell and stylist Rachel Zoe, all of whom enjoyed the beautiful day, listening to music from the likes of Kings of Leon to Sting, munching on petite sandwich’s (crustless of course), sipping on Pim’s cocktails and cucumber water, while sampling Buberry Beauty like Burberry Skin, Glow, Lips and Eyes.

Burberry Beauty Campaign

“Burberry Beauty” includes foundations, blushers, lipsticks and eyeshadows, and its very British palette is inspired by the house’s iconic trench coat. In keeping with its quintessentially English vibe, the ad campaign features British models Lily Donaldson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Nina Porter.

“We’ve chosen three British beauties we’ve worked with before and who are part of the family,” Bailey said. “Rosie has this effortless sexiness to her; Nina has an edge and attitude; and Lily is a classic British beauty. When you put them all together, you have a pure Burberry expression.”

Burberry Beauty Lips, Eyes and Face

The products (priced from $27 for an eyeliner to $55 for a wet-dry foundation) come in metal packaging etched with Burberry check. Foundation shades are based on the earthy shades of the iconic trench. The Light Glow blush, in colors like russet, blossom and cameo, are mostly translucent, and the Lip Glow has a great plumping effect. The Sheer Powder Eye Shadows, in stormy khakis, blues, lavenders and grays, are easy for anyone to use.

Bailey said, “I started to think about  makeup a few years ago, while working on a runway show. where it seemed clear that this concept was the only one that we were missing to fully express a world and state of mind”

The collection is fused with inspiration from the classic Buberry trench coat, locking in that timelessness with innovation and functionality.  The make up line is available exclusivley at Nordstrom and www.burberry.com across the US, Canada and Europe.  We were lucky to leave with an incredible gift bag full of products to take home and packaged in a great clutch by Burberry of course.

Expect to see much more from Burberry, Bailey is building on the brands history with innovation and is reaching out to the next generation, starting now with this beauty line, but also doing an entire social networking site, digital advertising and even a fashion show webcast that let consumers order on the spot.  Burberry’s comeback, that Bailey lead,  just keeps on coming and coming.   With a following like Bailey has and the incredible staff around him, Burberry is sure to continue to surprise us and entice us.
