Los Angeles Fashion’s Night Out 2011 swept through the town like a hurricane. Celebrities, fashionistas, designers and bloggers all mixed and mingled at different shopping hot spots across town celebrating their universal love of fashion and one night of special sales.

At Westfield Century City, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising held a student dress design competition centered around royal Kate Middleton for inspiration.  The students had two hours to create a dress using just a few raw materials like needles, thread, tape, straight pins and retailer shopping bags. They were allowed the use of a sewing machine and ironing board, as well as a dress form on which to create their dress. The winning team received a $1500 Westfield Gift Card and a gift bag.

The Blogger Bar at the Microsoft store consisted of a lounge area complete with a digital bar that allowed you to blog live from the event while sipping on champagne and indulging in sweets from Hello Kitty Champagne, Pinkberry, See’s Candies and Vanilla Bake Shop.  After champagne and cupcakes, it was off to the most famous of all fashion boulevards, Rodeo Drive. The city of Beverly Hills goes all out for Fashion’s Night Out by shutting down Rodeo drive and allowing the boutiques to take over. It truly felt like a fashion festival with the food trucks, ferris wheel and famous designer stores spilling out onto the streets with special FNO gifts, styling and more.

The second annual Fashion’s Night Out in Los Angeles was bigger than ever before. The outpour of support from fashionistas proves that even in a tough economy style and fashion remain a very important part of everyday life.

We checked out The Taste Sunset Hour at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, a preview of the upcoming Los Angeles Times Food & Wine The Taste 4 day culinary spectacular during Labor Day Weekend. The Taste is a top food and wine extravaganza, celebrating all things epicurean.While I happily tasted all the fine food made by the best chiefs, I also chatted with the CEO of Sprinkles Cupcakes and got the sweet inside “scoop” on what big move the company is doing next… (hint:scoop)

The Taste Sunset Hour hosted some of the most prominent culinary names in Los Angeles that will also be taking part in the official and public LA Times Taste event. Chefs in attendance were Richard Ruskell from Scarpetta, Ricardo Zarate of Mo Chica, Jason Neroni of Osteria La Buca, and Roy Choi of Kogi. It was an evening where chef’s and food aficionados alike could enjoy hourdeves, sparkling libations and the delicious sunset.

Guests munched on the finest macaroons, crab cakes, banana cake, fruit tart and enjoyed drinks by Absolut Vodka. The Montage Hotel rooftop terrace served as the perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of Beverly Hills and allowed guests to focus on the food, savoring each byte carefully prepared by the talented chiefs all while toasting to the amazing sunset.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Candace Nelson, owner of the famous cupcakery Sprinkles Cupcakes. Candace is as sweet as her cupcakes and was happy to dish the sweet details behind Sprinkle’s success.

SSD: What made you turn to baking cupcakes as oppose to full cakes like most common bakers?

Candace Nelson: Well you know what I started with cakes, and what I realized was you can only buy cakes for special occasions and i wanted to make something that someone could conceivably purchase everyday, but i wanted something that was artful like a special occasion cake, so I married the two!

SSD: What makes Sprinkle’s different from other cupcakes?

Candace: Well first and foremost, its our commitment to freshness and quality. We use all the best ingredients and a “just in time baking system” which means we use only what we need for that time period, so nothing sits for very long. To me, a cupcake isn’t worth the calories unless it’s super fresh and super delicious. Any of our left overs go to food-banks and homeless shelters and we start from scratch everyday.

SSD: I love that you guys donate your left overs to those less fortunate.

Candace: We have a commitment to our local community so we have a lot of charitable initiatives. We do different charity cupcakes throughout the year. Cupcakes with a cause!

SSD: I have to ask, what is your favorite Sprinkle’s cupcake flavor?

Candace: It depends on my mood and the day, but my go-to cupcake is the dark chocolate.

SSD: What is next for Sprinkle’s?

Candace: Funny you should ask! We are going to start making Sprinkle’s Ice Cream. We’re actually opening a ice cream store next to the original Sprinkle’s, but I can’t say much more than that. You got the inside scoop!

Social Media Day 2011 by Mashable took place in various spots all over the world on June 30th and for Los Angeles the place to be was at the CBS News “What’s Trending” studio in the the heart of Hollywood.  What at first was going to be a “pop in” to see my dear friend and Executive Producer/Host of What’s Trending, Shira Lazar, as I couldn’t really grasp the idea of what social media day would be, turned into an all night affair with hundreds of social media networkers drinking cocktails provided by Veev, eating “pop chips,” listening to live performers on the stage as they broadcasted via stageit.com, and meeting new fashionistas who sell their designs online.  A great time indeed. Mashable started in 2005 by Pete Cashmore in his room in Scotland when he was 20 years young.  It is a web site that essentially covers news and developments in technology, gadgets, online video, etc (a “mash up” of all the tech stuff online).  Now, just a little over 6 years later, it gets a reported 30+ million pageviews and is one of the world’s largest websites.  Cashmore is just 26 now and by the time he’s 30 people guess he will cash out and make tens of millions.

Los Angeles, CA April 28th, 2011 – Stars gathered in Culver City to celebrate IWC Schaffhausen and Peter Lindbergh’s “A Night in Portofino,” a brilliant photographic collaboration between the legendary photographer, the renowned Swiss watchmaker and IWC’s overwhelmingly talented friends of the brand. Exclusively in the US for one night, the photos capture the spirit of “La Dolce Vita” and the true elegance of Portofino in the 1960’s.

“PETER LINDBERGH’S PORTOFINO”

In May 2010, Peter Lindbergh, one of the greatest photographers of them all, portrayed IWC’s Friends of the Brand against the nostalgic backdrop of a 50s/60s-style Hollywood film set. Whether it was Cate Blanchett eating an ice cream whilst clutching Kevin Spacey’s arm, Elle Macpherson and Eric Dane on a scooter radiating genuine Italian lifestyle or Luís Figo and Matthew Fox aboard a sleek powerboat, the cast had a wonderful time which is clearly reflected in all of the brilliant images. The resulting exhibition, “Peter Lindbergh’s Portofino”, consists of a series of impressive black-and-white photographs and celebrated its US premiere at Culver Studios last night. The exhibition is now scheduled to continue on its world tour and will visit other major cities in Middle East, Asia, and Europe

PORTOFINO COMES TO CULVER CITY

For the exclusive US event, IWC created their own Portofino in Los Angeles. Capitalizing on the “behind the scenes” nature of the exhibition, there was no more of a perfect location than the historic Culver City Studios. When guests first arrived, they were treated to a gallery-like setting displaying almost 50 photos from the world class exhibition and also had the privilege to preview exclusive movie featuring the animation and excitement that took place during the shoot. As they moved further into the gallery, they party began to transition and everyone was transported to the Portofino harbor by nightfall. Aromas of delicacies from Italian markets filled the rooms as guests were entertained by authentic street acts and were photographed dressed up in 1960’s costumes – things even got competitive on the bocce court!

Style Seen Daily had the pleasure of being invited to Coco & Ice T’s vow renewal at the W Hotel Hollywood. The ceremony will be included in Coco & Ice T’s newest project: Coco Loves Ice, a reality series premiering June 12 on E!  The couple is on ten years strong of marriage and are ready to share their love with the world.  Also, Coco is starting to dip her hand in fashion, and is working on a activewear line that will be featured in the E! show.  The lavish reception featured custom Coco&Ice cocktails, a candy and cupcake bar and celebrities of course.  Friends of the couple such as  Snoop Dogg, Flavor Flav and Rick Ross were in attendance.

R & B Singer Jay Sean hosted the second annual “Rock/Style” fashion event at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s Tropicana bar by  Los Angeles Times Magazine on June 1, 2011.  All eyes were on the runway over the pool as L.A. Models showcased collections of summer trends from Macy’s.

In between fashion shows I took advantage of the chill down time and chatted it up with numerous Style Seen Daily friends like Jay Sean, Skylar Grey, Holly Madison and Chad Rogers.

Sean is just weeks away from having a new album drop, and enjoys being in his new place of residence — Los Angeles  – for a little bit before having to go back to his “home” — the jet.  It’s nonstop traveling for the Sean crew as his career is continuing to skyrocket.  Jay is very much into fashion.   And it is official, and I got him to agree, that he is a sunglass and sneaker feen (ofcourse I love it) —  Jay has at least 60 pairs of sunglasses and more than 300 pairs of kicks in his new LA closet.  Not bad Sean, not bad.   He shared that for his upcoming music video coming out next week, he decided to keep his style super simple and just don a white tee shirt.  ”I wanted to focus on the lyrics of the song,” Sean explained.

The 2011 MTV movie awards, hosted by Jason Sudeikis, is being held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles this year. As far as anyone in Hollywood is concerned, that means one thing: Kari Feinstein’s Style Lounge at the W Hotel is in session.  So of course, Style Seen Daily was in attendance to mix and mingle among some of tinsel towns trendsetters to give you a VIP look inside the event..

Celebrities flock to the Style Lounge each year because Kari and her team at McGuiness and Feinstein PR bring in some of the top names in skin care, jewelry, denim, apparel and even popcorn. You name it, and they have it for you.  Some celebrites in attendace this year were Whitney Port, Kayla Ewell,  Mario Lopez, Stephanie Pratt, Caity Lotz, Maria Menounos, Alexa Vega and Ali Landy.
