The fashion industry has always been infamously known for it’s hunger, the thirst for the newest, the better, and the unexpected. Countless reality shows have been based upon the very fact that the industry is a revolving door of models, designers, and trends ad nauseum.
It is this reason why when something is discovered made so purely of a creative revolutionary essence that the entire world sits up and takes notice.
Cue the entrance of one ‘Sally LaPointe’.
From the very moment I laid eyes upon this incredible woman, I knew there was a sort of arcane fashion magic within her. Her very essence tantilizes you with the promise of something momumental. She stood out from the crowd, her then platinum locks in straight shock of mane like some incredibly plumed bird of paradise. She teetered atop sky high platform heels as she danced to the retromusic blasting at the TriBeCa Grand Hotel, a favored hang-out due it’s it’s close proximity to her design studios.
Her company was founded by her best friend and business mind Sarah Adelson, whom has the paitience of a buddhist monk in corralling the creative mind of the artist as well as defending her from the dangers that lurk within this industry. Together they emerged on their own two feet starting from the ground up, rather than the following the beaten path of interning for an established design house. Experimenting with neo-couture design techniques of her own invention, blending her painting background with clothing theory she has the ever elusive skill of creating wearable art.
She explains that everything she does comes from her own intuition and that she never realized that her conceptual and avant garde designs would stand out from the crowd. She believes she is just following how she feels at that moment, what she knows, and what is natural to her as a designer.
She has focused her perspective and made a true definining tale for each piece of clothing she creates delcaring her voice for women, and being a woman as one of strength. Sally believes a woman should be intellectually sexy not needing lavish skin exposure to show that she is truly a woman. She wants her client to be taken seriously in the world whilst still holding onto feminine wiles that seperatly defines the softer sex.
The message is clearly one that women of all shape, size and age have been starving for and the clientele speaks volumes in defense of this. Her customer base is wildly diverse ranging from fresh faced fashionistas in their teens and twenties to mature women who are wearing the exact same pieces.
Sally has even attracted the attention of Lady GaGa who has donned her designs and has since requested custom orders for public appearances such as the performance for Oprah‘s final show where GaGa donned a blood red jacket with strong shoulders from the designer. In one of her latest videos ‘Judas’, the popstar wears a custom order golden gown as the tides wash up over her like the goddess Venus. GaGa’s stylist and creative head of Mugler, Nicola Formichetti had given Sally just four descriptive words for the order, not asking for anything too specific and and she certainly delivered as the internet was set a blaze with buzzing surrounding what she wore.
Sally LaPointe has become part of the life blood of New York City now, well on her way to become one of the legendary American Designers. The once the fledgling artist now is taking her turn of serving as fashion inspiration to the new wave of unhatched designers all over the globe.
Sally LaPointe is available in New York at OAK (http://www.oaknyc.com/), as well as in Los Angeles at Church) http://churchboutique.com/).

The simple formula of effortless chic has travelled with us throughout the past years and nothing said it stronger than the menswear collections freshly presenting their offerings around the globe. A dizzying array of colours, shapes and textiles rocked fashion world however a few strong themes emerged.
Every season designers attempt for the holy grail of menswear: “The New Suit”. This consists each season of designers picking and pulling at a traditional suit until the desired shape of the season comes to be. The tailored vibe that has struck such a strong chord has definitely continued on into the summer months, thankfully however the fashion gods were merciful and this season’s reincarnations of suits are anything but buttoned up.
These new relaxed, easy styles evoke that “just threw on yet impeccably put together” look. Softer fabrics being shown structurally condense menswear, and giving way to a wider silhouette on the bottom from anywhere in the range of carrot trousers to full length skirts and robes.

Freedom rings with mix and match separates ranging from the most casual of sports coats to even in the most formal of tuxedos dominating the runways. There is also a play upon adding and subtracting classic menswear elements, such as ditching ties or jackets but keeping the rest of the look.

Full tonal pairings as well from matching shorts and t-shirts in exact textiles, to four piece suits in cohesive separate fabrics yet all from the same color palette.

June 23rd– After a a couple seasons of delivering edgier, more futuristic collections, Artistic Director Alber Elbaz took a step forward for Spring/Summer 12′ by returning the renowned romantic label, Lanvin, back to a more raw expression of strength and venerability during Paris Fashion week. The house, founded in 1909, has always been known for its light colors and materials, which made this collection feel organic to the brand.

Elbaz commented after the show: “We wanted to go back to the essence of masculinity, which is leather, which is the uniform,” and inject that “with the fragility and emotion that has become our DNA at Lanvin.”
And that they did, with a collection filled with extra thin leathers, flowing silky materials and dusty hues dominating key pieces, with unexpected bursts of color. It hoped to convey men as both masculine and feminine without emasculating but by softening the rough edges of its military undertone. Incredible outerwear pieces highlighted by extra long Leather tunics, Lanvin’s staple sandal, and whimsical play with proportions ensured a clear understanding of direction.

Over all, the message ’boys can cry’ was successfully delivered with every look that walked down the runway reaffirming that the tears in my eyes when I saw those billowing trousers tucked into a pair of combat boots, were at the same time fragile as they were manly.
The best place to find the looks from this season in the United States will be Barneys New York, which is the largest wholesale carrier of the line, or you can check out the Lanvin E-store for purchase inquires.

At Paris Fashion Week Spring 2011 the Alexander McQueen show made a strong impact on the fashion world for the brand’s newest creative director . Despite the untimely death of world renowned fashion designer Alexander Lee McQueen in February 2010, McQueen’s successor, Sarah Burton, is able to carry on the McQueen legacy through the women’s wear collection filled with classic McQueen silhouettes with a little bit of Burton’s own womanly touch.
Actress Salma Hayek, whose husband Francois- Henri Pinault is a co-owner of Alexander McQueen, made an appearance at the runway show.

Floral and natural elements played a large part in this collection, which is a big turn from the aggressive, dark feel of past McQueen collections.

The models all had fresh faces with little make up and intricate woven braids that added to the show’s romantic, earthy feel. Even the runway that was covered in mossy, wooden planks played into the natural feel of the collection.

Soft, white canvas coats, which opened the show, highlighted the feminine physique with an exaggerated focus on the hips. Burton put her own spin on nature by featuring several pieces that were constructed entirely of black leather ivy leaves.

Some dresses were elaborately detailed with feathers and other natural elements, like wheat. A butterfly print, which is similar to past McQueen designs, was even seen emerging from a dress made of hand-painted feathers.

The silhouettes of the collection also varied, while still remaining true to the well-known Alexander McQueen style. Some dresses were impeccably designed to accentuate a woman’s curves, while some were more soft and bohemian- like with cinch-waist belts.

Although the death of such a fashion legend is still felt throughout the industry, and will always be felt, Burton did an excellent job of keeping the brand Alexander McQueen alive. The feel of the Spring 2011 show was certainly a bit gentler and more feminine, but the classic McQueen ‘fantasy’ was still seen through the designs.

Although Burton is the new creative director for Alexander McQueen, she has been a part of the McQueen team for more than a decade. She spent the last 14 years as McQueen’s design assistant and right-hand woman as McQueen built the fashion house to what it is today. Burton seemed to find the perfect balance between her vision of romanticism and McQueen’s knack for dark, visionary designs with the Spring 2011 collection.
