When you think of Texas many may assume cowboy hats, boots and horses. But hold up now cowperson because there’s so much more. During the week of August 14 thru the 21 Texas designers will prove it by showcasing local clothing, accessories, jewelry and even home decor at the 2010 Austin Fashion Week.   Events will take place at local salons and retail stores throughout this beautiful city.

SSD Teammember Francesca Baldi at the Volcom Spring 2011 Fashion Show.

California’s surf legends fashion brand Volcom kicked off the summer with a splash as they launched their Spring 2011 collection of swimwear and must-haves to get temperatures to reach smokin’ hot.  And I was there ready to report for my first Style Seen Daily article.

Volcom fans and fashionistas filed into the Cooper Design Space in Downtown Los Angeles to catch a glimpse of what to expect for Spring bikini season. The ambience was a beachy urban vibe that made for some great fashion finds in the crowd. From western to hipsters I saw it all…heaven.

Models of the Runway Volcom Spring 2011 Fashion Show.

The show kicked off with a bang as the crowd got to catch a few clips of a So Cal summer with bikini clad beauties. The models rocked it in some amazing pieces that made me want to buy one of everything. From denim, to florals. Volcom stopped at nothing to make their Spring 2011 collection unstoppable. The one thing that I loved the most about the show was none other than the…SHOES! What gal doesn’t just LOVE a pair of clogs? The models were sporting remarkable clogs that are the newest fashion find to hit the streets of LA along with some Jeffery Campbell wedges that made me fall in love, so as the rest of the crowd watched the bikinis pass by I was addicted to the footwear.

Killer Hair That will Have You Going Gaga.

Hair Accessories and Jazzed up Heals Make for the Perfect Summer.

Not only the shoes but also the accessories made me go gaga. I absolutely want to start wearing more accessories in my hair…it gives Ke$ha a whole new meaning. Feathers, flowers and neon’s oh my.  After a day with all that in my hair I can image quite a neck ache, but those models rocked it flawlessly.

Volcom Model Bikini Clad and Loving it.

Bigger is better maybe when you’re in Texas, but here in Cali we like to think the smaller the better when it comes to swimwear. It’s all about flaunting that itsy bitsy bikini and let me tell you, Volcom mastered the art in their 2011 Spring Swimwear collection. The bathing suits featured in the show were an eclectic blend of high wasted pieces, itsy bitsy bottoms and cutouts that will make you go gaga for glamorous swimwear…I fell in love.

Volcom Models Rock Fabulous Hair Accessories.

Volcom must have picked up from the words of Katy Perry, “Daisy dukes, bikinis on top” because from flannels to daisy dukes the models were flaunting the necessary pieces for a perfect day at the beach. Because we all know…”California girls we’re unforgettable!”

The catwalk for the 2009 autumn collection at Paris Fashion Week was a happy themed one. Models were smiling up and down the runway, something previously never really seen in Paris.

Stella McCartney‘s show was all smiles and full of supporters like her father, Sir Paul McCartney as well as her sister Mary both sat front row along with; Beth Ditto, Thandie Newton, Kanye West, Pink, Charlotte Casiraghi, Salma Hayek, and Francois-Henri Pinault.

McCartney showed delicate and beautiful cocktail dresses that put aside her typical sportier looks and let loose the “Stella Girl” as she put it.

Also shown were jumpsuits, knit sweaters and elegant cocoon coats with skinny belts – everything well tailored and “grown up” while maintaining the style she is known for which is simply and easy going unfussy style with sex appeal.

McCartney mentioned backstage that she liked to take things apart and then put them together again, as a result she used spliced tulle and silk as well as black lace floating down arms which was actually an illusion of sleeves.

McCartney proves that you can make desirable fashion while maintaining your ethics as a strict vegetarian, such as herself.

Stella’s refusals to work with leather and furs have previously been rumored to hinder the style of her shoes and bags – this year she turns that around – if it was ever even true. Her new collection has knee high boots in faux leather and knitted silk. Stella has succeeded in creating must have items that even PETA will approve of wearing.  She has also rose above the previous gossip that she was “just a pop star’s kid” and developed real design chops and respect sans dear old dad.

Stella has a variety of collections in 2009 from her Adidas designs to the two perfumes to both dressy and casual clothes. Her flagship store in London has had a strong year in profits and supporters keep multiplying.

Dolce and Gabbana also added an iconic fashion theme to the show paying homage to Marylin Monroe.

Gowns with Monroe’s smiling face adorned the models down the runway and it seemed that the new makeup ad campaign face, Johansson, who was dressed a light green silk dress with cap sleeves, could not keep her eyes off those styles. Johansson, a reddish-brunette at the moment, was done up in the campaign to look like Monroe with bright red lipstick and white blond hair.

The UK Telegraph reported on Johansson’s shoot saying, “I’m kind of buxom. I love red lipstick and I love a good lip. I was working with Pat McGrath, the British make-up artist, and she was so funny. Everyone kept saying, ‘Get Pat off the set. Scarlett’s smiling too much.”

“She is beautiful, and she has beautiful skin,” Stefano Gabbana said of 24-year-old Johansson. He added that she embodied the concept of beauty for young people today.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 Collection.

Marc Jacobs made quite a statement with his Fall 2009 Collection at New York Fashion Week.  The designer known for making celebs and A listers wait hours for his shows  pulled a 180.  He shocked many by doing the unheard of at a fashion show:  NO celebrities were seated in the front row, his fashion show was two minutes EARLY, and he ONLY allowed a limited amount of press and buyers in — instead of a packed house of 1500 people he cut it down to 500 people and, yes, there was room to breath!

Why did he do this?  He wanted to bring it back to the clothes.  And it seemed he wanted people to pay close attention.  And if you wanted to take in the looks, you had to stay alert and focused as they went speeding by.  In 10 minutes he had 60 models walk the catwalk and he wanted the attention on them, not the atmosphere.

Super sized shoulder pads, fluorescent colors, mohawks —  it seems Marc also took inspiration from the 80s for this line.  And then added his unique fashion forward take.

Below are some highlights form collection.  Let us know your thoughts.

Not one but two, yes TWO, models hit the floor during Herve Leger by Max Azria’s Fall 2009 New York Fashion Week show at Bryant Park.

The models were in tight, constricting dresses and very high, skinny heels.

Luckily there were unhurt.

slide_987_16472_large

Style Seen Daily is seeing  a trend in the recent  fashion shows with high heels reaching new elevations   — we’re talking about heels that add half a foot to your height.

slide_987_16476_large

Word of advice:  Be careful of too high of heels.  Just take a look at these photos and if these professional catwalkers are having problems just imagine trying to walk on these heels around town on a date!

And for those of you that need some help with walking in heels, check out this video I found while scouring YouTube titled “How To Walk In High Heels” — I find it educational and funny (it plugs a dvd that you can buy at the end that will further show you how to walk in heels — you see right there should be a fashion rule, if you need to buy a dvd to learn how to walk in your heels, then you shouldn’t be wearing those shoes.)  This video is roughly one minute in length.  And it seems that a lot of people need to pick up some tips, as it has received more than 600,000 views.

July 19, 2009:  The Carlo Pignatelli Spring/Summer 2010 fashion show just took place in Milan, Italy and we here at Style Seen Daily have posted a few of our favorite looks here for you to check out.

Designer Pignatelli is continuing with the purple color palette we have been seeing a lot of the past year.  So ladies, it’s looking like the royal colors will continue its reign. The flowly material for the women in the royal purple reminds us of a fairy princess while the structured suits for the gentleman allow a perfect balance.  Also popular for men are suits that are not just your basic black but instead gray and shimmery tones which goes perfectly with the purples.

Take a look at some of our favorite pictures from this show…
