Jaden, Trey, Willow, Jada and Will Smith at the Premiere of the Karate Kid Remake

In 1984, Producer Jerry Weintraub made a movie about the underdog and it became a huge hit, with kids leaving the first screening of it practicing that infamous crane kick used in the final fight and dressing up like Ralph Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso. Will Smith must have been one of those fans, because he and his production company Overbrook Entertainment partnered with Weintraub to update the 80′s franchise, Karate Kid, and this time around Smith brought his own 12-year-old son Jaden to take on the lead role. The entire Smith family came out in support, not only are they all incredibly talented ( 9-year-old Willow sings and acts, Trey plays sports), they all show their own unique style with their fashion choices.

Jada Pinkett-Smith shows off her kids while her leather bronze Rafael Cennamo dress from the Fall 2010 collection shows off her body, paired with matching bronze Pierre Hardy platform sandals, the same shoes we saw Leighton Meester wear earlier this year. Daughter Jaden aleady is stepping into her own rockstar, embracing Rhianna inspired hair and paying homage to the 80′s with every animal print out there. Star of the film Jaden, clearly brought out a Michael Jackson Thriller type jacket, reminding us of the times of the original Karate Kid premiere some 26 years ago. Its great to see parents allowing their kids to have fun dressing up while also showing respect for the 80′s!

Ralph & Jaden, Original Karate Kid Meets New Generation

Original Karate Kid Macchio, now 48, seems to have hardly aged since playing the role that made him a household name around the globe, at 22 years old. He posed for photos with Jaden and seemed proud to pass the “wax on, wax off” torch to the new generation.

Jaden Smith & Jackie Chan

Mr. Myagi, a role originally next to impossible for the producers to cast, was played by Noriyuki (Pat) Morita, and he won an Oscar for his performance, but sadly passed away before he could see this remake. Jackie Chan, who some were suprised to see playing a role as serious as this one, was quoted saying he was terrified to play such an iconic role, but we think he handled it with perfect style and grace.

Be sure to check out this remake, it will play on your heartstrings and show you style from across the world.

Hugh Hefner; Playboy, Activist & Rebel Movie Poster

Hugh Hefner, known of course as the famous founder of Playboy – is also a rebellious activist, a little known fact that Oscar-winning™ producer/director Brigitte Berman brings to light in her feature documentary, titled “HUGH HEFNER: PLAYBOY, ACTIVIST AND REBEL”.  The film tells the story of the flamboyant, outspoken founder of the Playboy empire and the fierce battles with nearly all levels of the U.S. government, the religious right, and militant feminists. Think less bunnies, less nudity and more politics.

First Cover of Playboy Magazine – Monroe

Hefner launched Playboy in 1953, achieving instant notoriety and astounding success for the magazine, the nude centerfold of Marilyn Monroe naturally helped.  Hefner began to become the most outspoken leader of the sexual revolution and/or liberation, in his own Playboy Style. Almost immediately, his brand and his voice, outraged forces of Church and State, who launched a war againist him, which is still going on today.

Known as hedonist, leading a controversial lifestyle, some said he exploited women, regardless, he became a true catalyst for progressive change in social groups, starting in Chicago, on an assortment of social and political issues including not just sexual freedom, but censorship, First Amendment rights, abortion rights, and social justice. Check out the official trailer below:

After Berman attended Hefner’s 80th birthday party at his infamous Mansion in April 2006, she decided the otherside of Hefner, Berman said in an interview, “was fascinating because as much as he had become a legendary lover of countless women – there was a more intersting side to him, the publisher of a groundbreaking magazine, who is also a social activist at the forefront of countless progressive causes – a man who took great risks in breaking the colour line in his Playboy clubs and TV shows, who defied the blacklist in the McCarthy Fifties decade, fought antiquated and absurd sex laws that regulated private conduct in the nation’s bedrooms, provided legal teams to fight anti-abortion laws that eventually led to Roe vs Wade, and campaigned against censorship and for the individual’s right to freedom of expression on all fronts. For me, this film has it all – sex, glamour, politics, romance, tragedy, and conflicts – and many great surprises about a man people think they know, but don’t really know”.

Berman was granted unprecedented access to his vast archives and allowed her to have complete creative control, something he had never done in his life for anyone.  Interesting for a man who is known for being proud of his enemies including Presidents Nixon and Reagan, FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover, Rev. Jerry Falwell, Don Wildmon, Gloria Steinem and Susan Brownmiller.

The highlights in the film include battles he fought from being arrested for obscenity, having been branded a pornographer by Reagan’s Meese Commission, the boycott of his magazine he endured, FBI surveillance and having been set up on drug charge, which he proved to have been fabricated.  Hefner has won every single legal battle he has ever fought, while continuing with his legendary lifestyle.

Participants in the film are essentially a “Who’s Who”  of the decades Playboy has been around, the list is extraordinary and brings insight into the mind of someone who has been called everything from a Genius to a Pedophile.  Regardless of what you think of him, there is no doubt that his personal style and vision has made an impact in media, and it turns out also in controversial social issues that may come to a surprise to many.

The film debuted at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival and opened July 30, 2010 nationally.

Actress Scottie Thompson.

We are bringing you a few of our favorite fashions from Comic-Con including actresses Scottie Thompson, Kelly Hu, Aisha Tyler and Jordan Hinson. 28 year old Thompson is wearing a grey shimmery dress from Haute Hippie and strappy heels from Zara.

Vampire Diaries Kelly Hu

Kelly Hu from “Vampire Diaries” revealed that she is a big fan of Comic-Con and of the vampire craze.  When asked why people are so addicted to vamps, Hu said she thinks it is because vampires are sexy, adding that nowadays to play a vampire on TV, killer looks are a must, “like be a 9.5 out of 10.” We think Hu is indeed a 10!

Aisha Tyler

Actress Aisha Tyler was dressed in white, goddess like, shoes and pants by HUGO BOSS, and white bracelet is Lia Sophia. She also added how she fits in at the “nerd-fest,” claiming to have been known as a geek growing up who loved playing video games. We find it hard to imagine this chic girl being anything of a geek!

Eureka beauty Jordan Hinson.

“Eureka” cast member Jordan Hinson is one fashionista, confirming she has no stylist and prefers to dress herself.  Her favorite designer is Marc Jacobs and she also likes shopping at Zara. Jordan loves clothing with a vintage flare and creating a look that has her own personal touch. Her outfit is a black pencil skirt with a low cut sheer blouse, she added a nice touch with her nude belt. We also loved her Valentino flower embellished purse.

Garrett wears a super tight glowing suit throughout the movie.  He told us that they had to cyber scan his body to make the black outfit, which he said is “tights as hell,” and covered in lights.   The cyber scan creates a suit out of every curve and any definition you have on your body.  He revealed to us that when he would sweat sometimes the lights on his outfit would give him “a buzz.”  Oh oh.

Garrett poses with Tron models at Comicon 2010.

Synopsis:  TRON is a 3D high—tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. It’s looking more and more like Sex And The City 2 will be getting underway soon.

All four of our favorite ladies, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have reportedly closed their deals with New Line, paving the way for our obsession with these ladies, and their fashions, to continue.

Hollywood Reporter reports that writer-director Michael Patrick King has also closed his deal with the studio and that there will be definite surprises in the sequel. Hmmmm….  perhaps they take a cue from Parker’s real life and throw a kink into the married happily ever after situation.

We here at SSD are excited to see the ladies reunite again and what Academy Award winning costume designer and fashion guru Patricia Fields has in store for us next.

The original movie made $400 million worldwide last year, not to mention it undoutedly helped the sales of such items as tutos, feather headbands…oh and ofcourse manolo blahniks.

Take a look at just a few of the Sex And The City fashion looks below.
