Tron Legacy” lead actor Garrett Hedlund gave Style Seen Daily and The Hollywood Reporter an exclusive interview during Comi-Con International 2010 in San Diego, CA.  You may remember Garret from the film “Troy,” which he can thank Brad Pitt for having handpicked him for the role.

Tron Legacy is a 3D science fiction Disney film by director Joseph Kosinski and also includes Jeff BridgesOlivia Wilde and Michael Sheen. It is a sequel to the 1982 film Tron.

Garrett wears a super tight glowing suit throughout the movie.  He told us that they had to cyber scan his body to make the black outfit, which he said is “tights as hell,” and covered in lights.   The cyber scan creates a suit out of every curve and any definition you have on your body.  He revealed to us that when he would sweat sometimes the lights on his outfit would give him “a buzz.”  Oh oh.

Synopsis:  TRON is a 3D high—tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech—savvy 27—year—old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life—and—death journey across a visually—stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

LA based graffiti artist Shepard Fairey has been creating artwork for a solid 20 years.  But it wasn’t until the 2008 presidential election that he became a household name.  His creation of the iconic Expressionist portrait of  President Obama with the caption “Hope” raised more than half a million dollars for Obama’s election campaign and it was what renowned author Malcolm Gladwell likes to call “the tipping point” for Fairey. This portrait spread like wild fire and was found all across America, and even the world, on billboards, bumper stickers, t shirts, jackets — the list is endless.

“The image has achieved what I hoped for, times 100,” said Shepard.

Shepard also created an image with Obama smiling and the caption “Victory.”

The road to political artist wasn’t straight and narrow —  Shepard has earned himself quite a rap sheet — he’s been arrested for street art multiple times. He did not approach the Obama campaign partly because of this reason.  But the combination of him postering it around his home base of Los Angeles and the image becoming a force on the Internet had the Obama campaign calling him after only a few weeks  – which was a smart move for the campaign for several reasons, including being able to control that the image wouldn’t be used in illegal ways.

“The reason why I did street art is because I wanted to share my art in front of an audience and the most direct way to do it, especially before the Internet, was to do find derelict spaces, abandon building, electricity boxes on corners and just put posters up,”  Fairey said.

We here at Style Seen Daily often have the pleasure to rock to Fairey as he is a resident DJ in downtown LA. He believes the world of music and art are intertwined. And just like his artwork, where he just starts and follows his passion not sure what the final work will be until he is done, he djs in the same manner, feeling the crowd and changing his music to the vibe in the air.  He reveals, “I love music and I feel like djing is audio graphic design.”

Shepard created the “André the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign in 1989, while attending Rhode Island School of Design.  This evolved into the “Obey” phenomenon with Obey stickers being stuck anywhere and everywhere (legal or illegal).  The Obey clothing line then followed suit.

He has also created album artwork for such artists as The Black Eyed Peas (Monkey Business) and  The Smashing Pumpkins (Zeitgesit).

Shepard Fairey is turning out to be one of our generation’s most influential artists. And SSD looks forward to watching Shepard spread his wings even further as we believe, like Obama, he is now in the right position to turn more of his ideas into beautiful creations.

When I Stop Talking You'll Know I'm Dead

At 72, Jerry Weintraub is still at it. From observing in the William Morris Mailroom to blocking up the phones at MCA when Lew Wasserman needed to make a call, he changed the music industry forever in the 60′s with his firm Concerts West, managed artists, chaired United Artists and produced in his own style which created a new imprint in the Hollywood scene, but keeping one constant, using the telephone.

From time to time we have the privilege to become awestruck, this happened when I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jerry Weintraub, an icon in the entertainment scene and someone who has, as Frank Sinatra – a onetime client of Jerry’s – would say “did it his way”. When our friend real estate tycoon Michael Meldman invited us to his beautiful development El Dorado in Cabo, I expected an incredible trip, but was thrilled to spend time with an extraordinary story teller and prolific leader.

Susie, Jerry & Jen Goldman

Jerry’s unique approach on life, which he openly shares in the book, inspires us to reach inside of ourselves and push for whatever it is we want, even if that changes day to day. “When I Stop Talking You’ll Know I’m Dead” has a slick style, helped by co-writer, Rich Cohen who profiled Jerry for Vanity Fair, makes it an easy read, and educates you on decdates of life and characters from Armand Hammer, George’s – Bush and Clooney, to second wife singer Jane Morgan, never divorced, yet gave blessing to his live in newer love (of over 20 years) Susie Ekins. A scenario even lothario Warren Beatty was publicy impressed by.

His career achievements are still mounting, from reenergizing Elvis Presley, to producing Katate Kid (both the original and the recent remake with Will Smith), to managing Sinartra, Bob Dylan, playing golf with George Bush Sr. and building the career of icon John Dever, to bringing together George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and cast for Ocean’s Eleven (of course also having been friends with the original Rat Pack) – Jerry has done more in one lifetime than most dream to and willingly shares with us the details in hopes to inspire us to take on anything we desire. Even speaking at Creative Artists Agency to the assistants and signing books for anyone who comes his way.

Ocean's on Hollywood Blvd

A self proclaimed “packaging guru” which he believes is all about creating an impression, even if it’s a spin. Relentless and full of endless suggestions, he is committed to creating whatever is necessary to get what he wants. His honest, yet defiant attitude has brought him much success, from a young age the moment he truthfully answered the question from the CEO of MCA about abusing phone privileges to speak with his girlfriend, later leading to a promotion, to bringing in inmates to pull out hundreds of chairs in a Florida stadium and then putting them all back in again just hours later to appease Elvis Presley and his commitments – to playing pranks on his fellow prankster friends with no expense spared, Jerry has a style that he created which continues to bring him great success and remarkable relationships with incredible people. Just check out the list of poeple he thanks in his books as well as the list he has worked with or represented.

His style is youthful, his charm is in explainable and he always manages to have fun while continuing to build, across decades of generations. Currently he is producing the Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas as lead and Matt Damon as his lover, along with Steven Soderbergh. We salute Jerry and look forward to seeing the documentary about his life that our friends Alan & Gabe Polsky are currently producing – meanwhile Read The Book! – get inspired. We thank Jerry for giving us a glimpse of the total hilarious insane success he creates again and again. And to Susie, his girlfriend and sidekick, we are forever grateful to have been a part of their lives for those precious moments.

Summit On The Summit Climbers

Summit On The Summit Climbers

Style is not just about what you wear, or where you go, its about what you do.  Our friend Kenna, a very stylish musician, also wears his heart on his sleeve and after seeing the natives where his father was born struggle for something as simple as clean water, he decided to do something about it. Kenna, Lupe Fiasco and Santigold, along with Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas all climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, this last January, in an effort to raise awareness for clean water.

Summit on the Summit, the documentary, made its debut on MTV. Seek it out, the scene is powerful and the style comes from the inside out in a beautiful way.  Justin Timberlake hosts and has been a supporter all the way, brands like HP and PUR made Kenna’s dream a reality and all of us should do our part to get into this scene.

Lots of people have asked: what is a hipster? Well, you’ll find that answer in the above image.  This picture definitely makes us laugh as Style Seen Daily has come across more than a handful of men who adhere to this Hipster uniform.

The last page contains a piece written by the Editor in Chief, Carlo Antonelli about the Bowery store and campaign subjects.    See translation below.

Rolling Stone January 09 English Translation for the above “Lo Stile e al CBGB”

THE STYLE IS AT “CBGB”

By Carlo Antonelli

Perhaps some people can remain unmoved when they give the taxi driver an address like “315 Bowery”, but it made me tremble with excitement – this used to be the New York address of CBGB, which for a time was the venue for the best live music in the world. A lot has been written about its closure, in this paper, too, and many tears have been shed. Now it’s a John Varvatos boutique, and I must admit it’s beautiful, with its creased old flyers preserved like mosaic fragments on the walls and a small corner for vintage vinyls and selling guitar amplifiers, as if to soften the impact of the change on the memories that still ooze from these walls.
When I meet Varvatos to quiz him about his recent collaboration with Franz Ferdinand (which couldn’t have gone more smoothly, everything cool, no problems, etc etc) I couldn’t resist asking him how he ended up there, trying to work out if in fact he’s the malign force that snuffed out this dinosaur of a club. “Oh no, eighteen months ago I was walking down Bowery and I found myself in front of 315, and I saw the “For Rent” sign. I couldn’t believe it. I took it like a shot. It had closed for a year, they were asking a too high rent for it. That’s why CBGB had shut its doors, they couldn’t keep up the payments (author’s note – now I realise he isn’t the one to blame. Let’s trust him). As far as possible I tried to keep the spirit of the place intact. Once a month we hold a free jam session that’s open to the public. It always attracts a load of people. In September we hosted the reunion of Jane’s Addiction. The other week Slash got up on stage”.
The relationship between Varvatos and the music world is a real one. Maybe it’s because he was born in Detroit and lived through the early 1970s of the MC5, something that also shows that the presence of Iggy Pop among his testimonials isn’t exactly a one-off. There’s a long list, from Aerosmith’s Joe Perry to Slash himself with Velvet Revolver, and Alice Cooper. “I also wanted AC/DC”, says Varvatos, “I met them, but the tour didn’t leave them much time, they’re great, even though the two Anguses aren’t exactly male models”. But he did get Cheap Trick. “They’re icons, and they’re real fun”. No kidding, John…

Pop icon turned designer Janet Jackson, "Pleasure Principal" model and Australian designer Bruno Schiavi launch new intimates line.

In just a few weeks Janet Jackson’s new intimates line, named after her 1980s hit “Pleasure Principle,” will hit stores. The music icon has partnered with Aussie fashion designer Bruno Schiavi to create an affordable underwear collection with sizes from 32A to 44G. Each piece will sell for under $40. We say it’s about time Janet Jackson gets to capitalize on her infamous Superbowl “wardrobe malfunction.”
