Lisa Guerrero successful television host and artist.

Santa Monica has a great beach vibe, but also it gives off a great artistic tone.  I checked out the art exhibit of Lisa Guerrero in Santa Monica, California on display at the Jeanie Madsen Gallery on Ocean Avenue.  Lisa is a fantastic host and actress (the sexy TV reporter recognized as being “one of the most influential Hispanics” by Hispanic Business Journal) with a few tricks up her sleeve.  Lisa also designs amazing mosaic tiles with a great hook on a name – Kitchen Bitches.

Lisa Guerrero's Kitchen Bitches mosaic tile artwork.

Both expertly crafted and attentive to detail, I was not only impressed but intrigued. The Kitchen Bitches feature pieces crafted together to paint a picture of different women.

From a Spicy Latina, to a Rockin’ Asian, the pieces showcased these women cooking up their dishes in their own special way.

Lisa Guerrero’s Kitchen Bitches.

The talented Lisa chose to add special details to make each piece unique. While reading the descriptions, I noticed that Lisa would use pieces she found in her home to add some flair. For instance, one of these “bitches” wore a headband Lisa had worn in High School. Another wore a necklace Lisa loved as a child. Recycling her old pieces made for a great visual and truly something unique in every piece.

Lisa's work on display at the Jeanie Madson Gallery.

Lisa is expanding her line and also designs special pieces. Her next collection will showcase men whipping up some interesting feasts. I, personally, would be barbecue guy. I’m talking chefs hat, apron, BBQ sauce and a spatula. My personal touch would be make the greatest burger you’ve ever tried.

Pricing on these pieces range from 5K to 11K, an investment to get your kitchen looking “spicy” or even one-of-a-kind.

You can check out Kitchen Bitches during the month of October at Jeanie Madson Gallery.

Molly Sims at Mulberry's Chateau Marmont Dinner

A gigantic pink/purple glittery Mulberry leopard and the brands Creative Director Emma Hill hosted an intimate dinner poolside at The Chateau Marmont to fete her Fall 2010 collection. Emma has been with the brand under 3 years, but already earned accolades with her first “It Bag”, the Alexa.

Alexa with the Mulberry Alexa Bag

The inspiration for the vintage feeling bag came when Emma met the English TV Presenter/DJ, Alexa Chung, globe trotting around with her briefcase, and knew she had something better for the tastemaker, taking the iconic Bayswater Mulberry bag and crossing it with the men’s Mulberry briefcase. The Alexa is relaxed and formal at the same time, and roomy, available in lambskin, snakeskin and nappa leather.

Shenae Grimes at Mulberry's Dinner

Emma’s guests included; Shenae Grimes, Cat Deely, Molly Sims, Kate Bosworth, Matthew Rhys, Kelly Osbourne, Gia Coppola, Jessica Joffe, stylists Jessica de Ruiter and Nikki Pennie as well as Alexa Chung (also Dj’ing).

Everyone snapped photos of one another with their disposable cameras found at their seats, wearing the leopard-print masks found on each dinner plate.

Kate Bosworth at Mulberry's Chateau Marmont Dinner

Guests were hopeful that a Mulberry Los Angeles store is in the works, but Emma spoke nothing of it, instead focusing on her own Margaret bag and the new collection inspired by the 1967 film “Valley of the Dolls”. “Naughty royalty, good girls gone wild” were the words Emma used to describe the line, which includes new Alexa styles, the Edna and Neely totes, along with some unique touches like Mulberry’s own crest, two English bulldogs and slogan, “We believe in tea and cake,” as hardware on the Margaret bag.

Emma will be moving to Malibu in October, housing herself and her team to create the next Mulberry line, surely it will have some additional California flavor to it. www.mulberry.com

Style Seen Daily Assistant Kelsey Kenson got first looks at the horses before the first races of the season at the Del Mar Race Track.

Dirt was flying as the chuts opened and horses hooves hit the dirt for the opening day of the 2010 Del Mar Thoroughbreds Club “Where The Turf Meets The Surf” Horse Races in Del Mar, California.  Betters yelled for their jockey pick to win while party goers chugged beer in the Coors Light Tent and the crowd was filled with revealing outfits and huge hats, similar to the infamous Kentucky Derby, but West Coast flavor.  A few big names in sports also joined in for the fun including quarterback Kyle Boller of the Oakland Raiders and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

Horse Racing is the second most widely attended U.S. spectator sport, and you could tell by the opening day crowd.  The fairgrounds opened in 1937 by  the popular American singer/actor Bing Crosby.  The stands were a sea of hats, bright colors, feathers, flowers, ribbons and more were all you could see. Check out the hats that keep the tradition alive.

Matching in fire engine red, these blonde bombshells were ready for the races.

These red beauties were getting ready to party it up in the Coors Light Tent.

These lucky guys also sported hats.

Black & white hat power.

I checked out “The One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest” where  this contestant created her own hat which took her four months to make.

This hat fan went all out for the opening day hat contest.

Big Del Mar Fan.

Horses, jockeys, trainers and owners get ready for the big moment, race one. Moments before the horses headed out of paddock to hit the turf.

Moments before race one of Opening Day.

Yes the sky was a bit cloudy but that didn’t stop fans to join the big race. These girls went to the extreme with their hats homemade and definitely outrageous.

Most Outrageous Theme was one of the 4 categories for the hat contest.

This contestant entered the “Best Flowers” category, she was ecstatic to tell us, ” This is my 8th year competing in the hat competition.” She also mentioned how much she loves keeping the tradition of dressing to impress at the races alive. This unique hat was home made and a whopping 8 pounds.

Flower Power

This gentleman shared his indecision of which category to enter either, “Most Outrageous Theme” or “Best Racing Theme”. His merry-go-round themed hat helped him choose the “Best Racing Theme” category as the horses literally spun around on his hat.

Ladies are not the only ones who entered the contest.

“Most Outrageous” theme was the category this women chose to enter. This hat is definitely one of a kind, and also was a fan favorite. She also had trouble fitting through the doors at the race track.

Can you say most outrageous?

Fan gone wild, lets just say this hat was a perfect “Del Mar” theme. She exclaimed to us that this outrageous hat took 6 months to make, she entered this look in the “Best Racing Theme” category. Wait for the craziest part this hat was 15 pounds, thats dedication.

"Where The Turf Meets The Surf"

This hat made us do a double take, when we saw a live fish on her hat. What a catchy theme for this “Most Outrageous” contestant.

Is that a real fish? YES!

The race is on.

Want more than just horse racing, Del Mar offers tunes for those music lovers. Offering a summer concert series including bands like Weezer, Common Sense, Super Diamond and ZZ Top. Fun filled day can include a day at the race track with Del Mar’s sweet summer savings, check out Free and Easy Wednesdays where Diamond Club members (a sign-up-free program) will get a Stretch run admission, program, seat and half-price beer all free of charge. Also make it a family date, free admission for kids and only $6 for adults on Family Sundays, prizes and games for the whole family too.

Hit the track before its too late races are from July 21 till September 21, 2010. CLICK HERE for more information.

Serena Williams hosts pre-ESPY party (in DVF dress) posing with sister Venus Williams. Serena took home Female Tennis Player of the year.

Saturday Night Live star Seth Meyers played host at the 2010 ESPY Awards in front of a packed house at the Nokia Live Theatre in Los Angeles, California filled with sports stars and their celebrity fans.  After the almost four hour awards show, athletes took off to various after parties around town, where they could let loose and catch up with friends from around the country. Four NFL superstars, and Style Seen Daily friends, Kansas City Chief Jarrad Page, Jacksonville Jaquar Marcedes Lewis, and Chargers Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper teamed up to throw a crazy after party at Hollywood hotspot Playhouse — where basketball super star, and this week’s top newsmaker, LeBron James, now heading to the Miami Heat, also had a table.

The parties were top of the class and so was these athlete’s style.  It’s not often that we get to see all these superstars outside of their team uniforms and dressed to kill, we like it and we want to see more.  These fit bodies look great in clothes!

Style Seen Daily has some of our favorite looks for you here.

Landon Donovan wins big with athlete of the year award.

American soccer player Landon Donovan who plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy won not only the most presigious award, Athlete of the Year, but also took home, Best Moment in Sports Award.  We liked his relaxed but sharp look — he forgo a tie and his shirt was unbottoned, yet his suit tailored perfect to his body.  Looking sharp.

Actor Mark Wahlberg looked pretty cute wearing shades at ESPY Awards.

Athletes weren’t the only ones at this special event, big stars also came together to celebrate with their favorite athletes, including Mark Wahlberg in his gray suit and silver/grey tie.

Football star Chris Johnson.

Young athlete Chris Johnson, 24,  running back  football player for the Tennessee Titans took home the great honor of Breakthrough Athlete.  We like how he broke the mold and rocked a leather jacket instead of a suit.  Nice!

Heart throb Zac Efron attended the show.

17 Again star Zac Efron, 22, was looking fine as ever, wearing a suit by Balenciaga. He’s breaking out of the High School Musical role and filling the shoes of a sexy young actor. His latest film, Charlie St. Cloud hits theaters July 30, 2010.

Skier Lindsey Von

Lindsey Vonn had her hands full of awards, she won Female Athlete of the Year and Female Olympian. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics, she has also won three consecutive World Cup Championships.  But she kept her style simple and classic — with a long monochrome dress in an on trend color, blue, that really stood out on the red carpet.  She looked stunning and approachable.

Twilight babe Ashley Greene.

Actress Ashley Greene was looking very sultry at the ESPY event. Wearing a fire red dress, that had a very sexy cut out back, this bloodsucking vampire sure spiced up the red carpet.  We like how Ashley matched her lips to the dress and kept the rest of her make up, hair and nails super natural.  When you are wearing such a hot color, it’s important to not go overboard.  Ashley balanced the look just right and looked, well, good enough to byte.

Since 1993, ESPN has come together to celebrate those favorite sports moments and the players by presenting the ESPY Coverage.

The popular young trendy clothing store Forever 21 is branching out its line with maternity wear for young pregnant women. They are calling the new line Love 21, and for now the line is only being offered in stores within the following five states, Arizona, California, Texas, Alaska and Utah. Ironically three out of those five states (Arizona, California, and Texas) are  recorded with the highest percentage of teen pregnancy.

The line is perfect for pregnant teens with its cheap, comfortable and cute clothing.  And yes, all aged women are wearing this line.  But I must state that I find this new line somewhat disturbing as I feel it supports young pregnancies.

Young & Pregnant? Forever 21 offers new maternity line.

I think to create a fashionable and trendy line for our teen mom’s is a bit much.  But maybe I’m overreacting?   Tell us what you think of this new clothing option for our young pregnant women by commenting below.

Interactive Workshops Open Doors in San Francisco this July and New York City later this Fall

Since its inception in 1873 as one of the original purveyors of American workwear, the Levi’s® brand has been the uniform of choice for great American pioneers. Levi’s® jeans have been worn by the craftsmen, laborers and artisans who helped define the cultural landscape in America and have shaped the energy and events of our times. This week, the Levi’s® brand celebrates a new generation of pioneers and creative communities across the country with the launch of Levi’s® Workshops. Taking a new, innovative approach to integrating community involvement with retailing, the first Levi’s® Workshop debuts this week in San Francisco followed by a second expression of the program later this fall in New York City. The Levi’s® Workshops will be multi-use spaces, featuring a functional workshop, community event space and retail storefront. Each Workshop is designed to focus on a specific craft including printmaking in the San Francisco Workshop and photography in the New York City shop.

The Levi’s® Workshops will serve as community-based extensions of the brand’s Go Forth marketing campaign, paying homage to the principles of hard work and civic engagement. Central to the Workshop program will be collaborations with recognized pioneers from each community. For eight weeks, each Levi’s® Workshop will open its doors to the general public and host a range of interactive demonstrations, educational programming and events.

The first of the Levi’s® Workshops will open to the public this week in San Francisco’s Mission district, just down the street from one of Levi’s® original factories. Located at 580-582 Valencia Street, the Workshop will feature letterpress, silkscreen and photocopy equipment for local artists and designers to create their own print-based artwork. Community groups and non-profit organizations will also be invited to access these resources and work with the Workshop staff. The space will also offer Levi’s® denim and workwear product that embodies the spirit and craft of print design.

To leverage the energy of the Levi’s® Workshops, the brand has invited local pioneers to execute printmaking-based collaborations including:

–  Alice Waters – chef, author and proprietor of Chez Panisse Restaurant in
Berkeley, California. Waters is also the Vice President of Slow Food
International and a leader of the culinary philosophy based on using
only the freshest organic products served in season. Waters’ commitment
to education led to the creation of The Edible Schoolyard, a one-acre
garden and adjacent kitchen classroom at Berkeley’s Martin Luther King
Jr. Middle School which has grown into a national program.  For her
collaboration with the Levi’s® Workshops, Waters is working with a
longtime design collaborator to create an educational poster for the
Edible Schoolyard. “Levi’s® is bringing together art, food and the
local community,” said Alice Waters. “This is what Chez Panisse has
always been about and what excites me most about the Levi’s®
Workshops.”
–  Craig Newmark – an Internet entrepreneur best known for founding the San
Francisco-based website Craigslist.org, a site where people can help
each other with everyday needs including housing and jobs searches. The
site embraces a culture of trust, based on shared values. Newmark’s
resume includes thirty years working with computers for leading
companies including IBM, GM, Charles Schwab & Co., and Bank of America.
Newmark has partnered with the Levi’s® Workshops, combining his
expertise in digital media with manual printmaking to share powerful
messages.
–  Aaron Rose – artist, film director, curator and writer. Rose directed
the documentary film Beautiful Losers (2008) and recently completed the
short documentary film Become a Microscope based on the life of the
1960s artist/activist nun Sister Corita. Rose’s publishing imprint
Alleged Press releases hardcover books by contemporary artists.
Levi’s® Workshops celebrates his pioneering work as an advocate for
positive creative voices in the arts.  “I am thrilled to be able to
bring the work of Sister Corita to the Levi’s® Workshops in San
Francisco,” said Rose. “Corita is a huge inspiration to me, and
hopefully will have the same effect on the people who take part in our
workshop.”

“The Levi’s® Workshops celebrate the pioneering spirit and hard work of people and organizations that we admire,” said Joshua Katz, head of Collaborations, Partnerships & Creative Concepts for the Levi’s® brand. “It’s all about community, creativity and collaboration. Through the programming, the various production projects and the public resources that we are providing, we are able to collaborate with local heroes who have mastered their craft while inviting in the broader community to roll up their sleeves and get to work.”

Levi’s® Workshops will encourage global involvement through a dedicated website, various social media platforms and syndicated daily content. The website will launch alongside the San Francisco Workshop in early July. Original content supported by articles from renowned guest bloggers will be posted daily, in addition to updates on Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. Supporting the written content will be a series of films highlighting the spirit of the Levi’s® Workshops. These films will be a catalyst for
spreading the message of the
Levi’s® Workshops while documenting the activity happening inside each environment. The website will also include opportunities to purchase Levi’s® products offered in the Levi’s® Workshops.
