Adam Levine had his annual Hollywood Halloween party at the infamous Hollywood Cemetery

Halloween in Hollywood. There is nothing like it.  The town is filled with thousands and thousands of actors who are just dying for the chance to perform, so a holiday that requires playing a character is obviously popular here and there are tons of options.  West Hollywood hosts thousands on its closed Santa Monica Blvd where costume is mandatory, performances are a plenty and a parade travels through the city.  Locals and tourists photograph all of the action and in recent years make the pictures viral in seconds.  The famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel turns the entire hotel into a celebration, Universal Studios houses a Haunted Maze, Knots Berry Farms turns into Knots Scary Farms, the Los Angeles Zoo offers a Haunted Hayride, and celebrities like Hugh Hefner,  Adam Levine, Kate Hudson, and B.J. Novak host annual parties — it’s nonstop and amazing.  Here are some of our past Hollywood party Halloween highlights to help inspire you for this spooky holiday.

In addition to the incredible music line up, SSD favorites include; Arcade Fire, Cold War Kids, Chemical Brothers, Kings of Leon, The Strokes, Black Keys, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, DJ Sven Vath, Kayne West and also Isabel Lucas’  boyfriends rocker Angus Stone, the scene was all about Coachella style.   While running around drinking VeeV in hand, we were able to dance to these amazing musicans, while also scoping out the fashion scene.

The most popular designers on at the festival were Zadig & Voltare, Current Elliott, Aldo Shoes, Joie, and Rag & Bone. Despite Lacoste, Mulberry and Burberry all having events on hand, the sights at the festival were less familiar this year than others, some up and coming Jeremy Scott designs as well as Camilla & Marc made their way onto girls, along with good old American brand Gap and tons of swimsuits by H&M, Zara and Roxy.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Victoria’s Secret Angel, and recent mother, was dancing to the music with some friends and her fiance Jamie Mazur. She wore a white Rebecca Taylor dress, Tolani Chakra scarf and Benjamin Eyewear Nicole sunglasses.

Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth, who was with her boyfriend Alexander Skarsgard, wore a Topshop American Flag tank top, paired with Current Elliott shorts and that eve changed into a flowing black Theyskens Theory Damia Dress with Joie shoes.  Every day she rocked her Ray-Ban aviator style sunglasses and loose hair.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie attended the Mulberry luncheon, wearing denim shorts paired with Mulberry “Annie” blouse and her very own House of Harlow 1960 “Jordana” sunglasses,  “Veronika” strappy wedges and a Mulberry small Heritage Bayswater bag.

Rihanna

Rihanna was in the audience during  Arcade Fire’s performance, wearing a camouflage jacket,  black top and jean shorts. Rihanna Tweeted: “Coachella! Fun times… Arcade Fire, u f**kin blew my mind! Felt like a kid again! U rock!!” And later that night attended Brent Bolthouse, 944 and Armani Exchange’s Carnival party off site.

Ashley Greene

“Twilight” actress Ashley Greene was with new boyfriend Jared Followill’s best friend, wearing a blue Hermanny by Vix sliding halter bikini top underneath an AllSaints Milla stripe vest with Garage  blue boyfriend shorts, and carried a Hobo Davina vintage leather handbag.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry, perhaps the most elegant of all Coachella goers, wore a white vintage D&G lace long dress with a Mercy Delta Marylebone scarf and sunglasses.

Vanessa Hudgens

Sucker Punch Films lead Vanessa Hudgens wore a crocheted Unif Birkin skirt with Kettle black double wrap belt and a blue Jen’s Pirate booty  tube top, along with a Tori Praver tie, a Natalie B. Tibet turquoise coral pendant necklace and Love Child chain drop three feather earring.

Isabel Lucas and Angus Stone

And our friend Just Jared reported and snapped Isabel Lucas and Angus Stone in their Coachella gear, check out justjared.com for more details on their looks.

Overall Coachella has once again proved to be an incredible weekend of music, sun and fun, other Hollywood land attending were musican Kenna, athelte Shawn White, entrepreuner Sean Parker (who threw parties everynight till 5am!), Clint Eastwood, Stephen Dorff, hotlier Jason Pomeranc, producers Alan & Gabe Polsky, Hautelook founder Adam Bernhard and many many more!

We can’t wait for next year.

Mercury Travel

No need to blame it on the rain, your boyfriend or your boss –  its the planet Mercury.  What we mean is, if you have been feeling like things have been a tad bit strange lately, or difficult rather, well there is a scientific explaintation - the  phenomenon known as Mercury Retrograde and it occurs three times each year. So what does that mean? For about three weeks time, Mercury travels in reverse motion against the backdrop of stars, this time around it began March 30 and will end April 22nd.  Experts say that during this time communciation – in all various ways including technological and verbal – can become confused and unclear, cause delays and changes, extremists will not sign contracts during this time or even travel, they say to use this time for researching, strategizing or solving problems. Written and verbal contracts signed during this time are often cause of confusion later and it is not a good time to buy electronics, including cars and computers.

So what is best to do now? Edit, rewriting, reworking, reevaluation and reconsideration, spring cleaning – just be patient and take time to triple check work, but hold off on final decisions until Mercury goes direct.

Mercury in this orbit  does allows us to look into the future toward new and innovative ideas, bring ideas back into the present to test and evaluate to see how they fit into our life, once retrograde ends we are able to put our new ideas into manifestation.  As Mercury retrogrades back into the present, the connection with the Sun happens as we then can test drive our ideas and re-align with reality and the natural timing of the universe!

The next Retrograde will be July 15th to August 8th, then again on November 5th till the 26th.

Juno Temple in "Little Birds."

We have the top three movies you must see from The Sundance Film Festival 2011. We have brought you the best of the best dramas that debuted at the festival.

Homework

Homework Starring Freddie & Emma

Artist and Executive Producer Andrew Levtias premiered his film “Homework”, Directed and Written by Gavin Wiesen, this is a first film for them both, but Andrew’s third time as Sundance as he was once an Actor himself.

Freddie & Emma On Set

The film stars Freddie Highmore,  Emma Roberts and Michael Angarano, but also in the picture are veterans; Rita Wilson, Alicia Silverstone, Elizabeth Reaser and Blair Underwood, as well as new comer, Sasha Spielberg (yes that is her dad).  George (Highmore) is a loner type fatalistic teenage who refuses to pay attention in class, do any work or participate in any social activities, that is till he is befriended by Sally (Roberts) a very complicated yet popular girl who sees something in him that draws her close. She introduces him to the world of his classmates who are trying to make the best of their senior year, while he shows her another part of the world she had not yet paid attention to, including a bohemian artist Dustin (Angarano).

Andrew Levitas & A Painting Of His Featured in Homework

Dustin’s artwork is actually the real life work of Artist Andrew Levitas, who also makes a cameo in the film opposite Sally’s mother, who is played by Reaser, a promiscuous drunk. George’s mother, played by Wilson, is a lovely yet insecure woman trying to make it through a relationship fueled with lies, everything takes a turn for George when his teacher (Silverstone) and Principle (Underwood) give him a serious task to complete before the school year ends.

Writer/Director Gavin Wiesen

Gavin does an excellent job of portraying the Upper East Side New York City teenagers, and the characters pull at your heartstrings, yet make you laugh, if you have ever felt out of place, in love or frustrated by your family and school work.

Little Birds

Little Birds Lily (Juno Temple) & best friend Alison (Kay Panabaker)

Alan and Gabe Polsky showcased their film “Little Birds”, along with Producing partner Jamie Patricof, this is Polsky’s second film in two years, but first to make it to Sundance. You may have seen their last movie, “Bad Lieutenant” with Nic Cage & Eva Mendes, or have heard rumors about their documentary about Jerry Weintraub which they’re producing with Kevin Huvane, Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter and Mr. Weintraub himself.

Gabe Polsky, Eva Mendes and Alan Polsky

The Hollywood Reporter ranked the Polsky’s in their List of Top 10 Producers to Watch last year, and we are certainly paying attention.  We love that “Little Birds” takes place in California too.

Juno Temple

Director/Writer Elgin James created a story about Lily (Juno Temple) and her best friend Alison (Kay Panabaker), as two 15 year-olds girls living near Cali’s Salton Sea, basically a ghost town full of abandoned hotels, and a run down polluted lake in the middle of the desert.

Kay Panakaer by Justin Coit

Once it was once a famous wealthy area, the town has memory of better times and the girls dream and begin adventures to create a new life for themselves, and as we have all been dreamers in our lives, the characters touch your hearts and minds as you watch their journey unfold. Leslie Mann, Kate Bosworth, Kyle Gallner and Chris Coy also star.

The Son Of No One

And finally, last but certainly not least, and literally premiered the closing night of the festival, is the film “The Son of No One”.

Son of No One Poster

Executive Producers Cassian Elwes, Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort and veteran indie Producer Holly Weirsma and Trudie Styler (yes Sting’s wife), bring you a story about a young police officer (Channing Tatum) who is assigned to a precinct in a working class neighborhood where he was raised, everything is going along well till a deep secret emerges as he follows the footsteps of his deceased father.

Katie Holmes & Channing Tatum on the set

The post 9/11 tension, combined with an anonymous source reveals buried information about the murder of two boys, with a possible police cover-up that rattles the neighborhood and causes Tatum to go into protective mode of his girlfriend, played by Katie Holmes and all else that is dear to him.

Tatum describes the film as a “sort of copy psycho drama” which sounds good to us!   Get ready for a standoff between Detective Stanford (Al Pacino) and Tatum, and presumably Ray Liotta too. Funnyman Tracy Morgan plays Tatum’s best friend, a role Terrance Howard was once mentioned for, also stars Juliette Binoche.

Al Pacino & Channing Tatum on set of Son Of No One

Writer/Director Dito Montiel, keeps an independent feel, despite the studio-caliber cast and brings passion, authenticity and brilliant drama, which we are certain you will enjoy, and Holly Wiersma has a knack for making pictures we love including;  “Wonderland”, “Factory Girl”, “Bobby” and “Happy Endings”, so we are certain you will be entertained.

Talia Osteen and Holly Wiersma

Andrew, Gabe, Alan and Holly all have worked so hard to create something for you to enjoy. Please support their hardwork and go see these movies!

And, congrats to our friends making things fun in Park City — event planner Ally Bernstein planed the parties for the majority of the films, including Creative Artists Agencies (CAA) big event, Jen Goldman handled the “Homework” event along with  Jason Strauss and Noah Tepperberg from Strategic Group, a Gifting Suite full of swag was on hand from Michael Heller of Talent Resources and Kenny Griswold, who basically brought the concept of parties, nightlife, gifting lounges and “Chef Dance” to Sundance, along with his wife, as always, took around top clients to all of the events that come to life.

Blaire Geode Stone Necklace by Elizabeth Fieldcamp’s Gypsy Collection

Our lovely friend Catherine Fieldcamp Bowman dresses celebrities, her husband Marty produces movies  (you may have heard of “Twilight” or “Dear John“), and her sister, Elizabeth Fieldcamp, creates these unique pieces for her own line Gypsy Collection. This particular necklace shown here is made with a Blaire Geode stone, and is said to have healing powers. The vibratory power of stones, has been held in high esteem since ancient times by the Magi, Alchemists, Quabalists, Astrologers, Egyptian Priests, and Healers – all have valued, studied, and taught the virtues of powers attributed to stones.  These types of Stones are used in ceremony, ritual and spellwork to enchance ones aura and/or to be used in conjunction with other items like herbs and talismans, to help bring about ones wishes, or to represent certain influences of nature.

Geodes specifically are known for holding intended energy and are helpful with meditating, they’re said to bring awareness to what our soul purpose is, allowing one to see the whole picture, while giving guidance for decisions. It is a favorite of people that are in healing fields, as it assists in astral travels. Overall they sooth and de-stress, aiding in spirituality and psychism support.

Elizabeth obviously has selected some incredible stones that give special support, if you believe in that, and we of course do.  She listens to her muses or guides if you will – that is – those who inspire her,  channeling their inspirations into her own creation of jewelry.  Since she was ten years old, Elizabeth has been enthusiastic about art and even convinced a neighborhood boutique to carry some of her work, which earned her the very first paycheck and has not stopped since.

Pink Chalcedony Ring

A native Texan, she now lives in Los Angeles and spends her days designing unique earrings, bracelets, rings and necklaces.  At one point she went back to Texas to open her own store, Market Boutique, but after several successful years, she decided to return to jewelry-making full-time, selling Market and coming back West to create Gypsy Collection, inspired by an eclectic mix of styles from across the globe. Nearly every piece is hand made, so you know you always have your very own artwork unlike anyone else’s.  Many of the styles are made with two of her favorite materials: geodes and drusy gemstones, those are the ones’s we love that give us Spiritual support!  Elizabeth has also branched out into designing homeware such as pillows and handbags.

[

Above is one of our favorite items – currently for sale on her website -the Pink Chalcedony Ring,  $155. This stone is said to bring power to your heart chakra, it’s Metaphysical Properties include; healing feelings of insecurity, post-natal stress relief, helping one cope with difficult family, and at work it is known to help give you a sense of identity when working with large groups. It is most commonly used for self-esteem and self-love rituals, which in my opinion, most of us could use a little more self loving!

We’re really excited about Elizabeth’s designs and look forward to seeing more of them. Click here to go to the official Gypsy Collection web site.

Michael Buble On Stage At Staples Center For His Tour Ending Show

Our dear friend Josh Meltzer, of Studley Real Estate in Los Angeles, invited us to see our friend Michael Buble’s final show of his 2010 tour, CRAZY LOVE, which he named after one of his favorite songs by Van Morrison, was a sexy yet fun show. Over 10,000 fans packed Staples Center to enjoy the cooner perform songs we all know by heart from Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison and Bobby Darrin, but also he sang the many originals he has compiled through the years and shared with us a new one titled, “Hollywood” which he and his musical director created together.

MB performed over two hours of songs, and shared the stage with his opening act Naturally 7, an incredible group of seven men who all use their mouths to make the sounds of various instruments.

Women through themselves at the stage, so much so that MB came off the stage and into the sea of fans to sign autographs and spoke directly with the crowd saying how grateful he was to have such support and love. At one point he said “the love in the room is so addictive, I have been wanting to do this my entire life and if you will have me I will keep coming back forever, at first I felt nervous till I realized no one is paying money to hate you, thank you so much for spending your hard earned money and taking time in your busy life to come join me.” Always a charmer, we were not surprised by his sweet words, nor by his handsome attire put together by his stylist and our friend, Holly Russell. MB even took the time to share photos of one of the 14 guys in his bands new born baby, thanking those guys for being his family and for their dedication.

We were lucky enough to be just 3 rows away center stage to get a close up of our pal. Keep making music Michael and please SSD readers, go out and buy his new LP Crazy Love! And check out the Naturally 7 boys.

VIDEO:  Crystal Cam: Michael Buble Dishes On Hollywood

"Somewhere" film producer Sophia Coppola with co-stars Elle Fanning & Stephen Dorff

Labor Day weekend is a big deal in Italy, its time for the 67th Annual Venice Film Festival and this year we were blown away by one independent film premiering there, “Somewhere” by Sophia Coppola.  Not only does she look incredible in her Louis Vuitton dress and shoes, but her film is the most talked about and liked picture of the festival.  Elle Fanning, younger sister to actress Dakota Fanning, makes a precious performance in the film and on the carpet, stood out in her Marc Jacobs gown, the dress is a perfect choice for a young girl.

"Somewhere" filmed at the Chateau Marmont Hollywood.

“Somewhere” also marks an exciting new phase in the real life career of actor Stephen Dorff, who originally made his mark in the film world playing Deacon Frost in many guys favorite film “Blade“, despite having been a successful actor for ten years by that time, including the film released one year before “Blood & Wine” where he co-starred with Jack Nicholson.

Stephen Dorff in Blade

Last year we saw Stephen alongside of Johnny Depp in “Public Enemies” playing a bad boy robber, but “Somewhere” shows a side of the actor that has gone unseen till now, he plays Johnny Marco – a young successful actor who lives at SSD’s real life favorite Hollywood spot The Chateau Marmont Hotel,  the Sunset Boulevard icon of Hollywood often known for excess and impermanence.

Stephen Dorff on the set of "Somewhere" at The Chateau Marmont.

Every vice is easily available to Johnny: parties, women, sex, booze, drugs, fame, but he is always dissatisfied. Sudden change comes in the form of his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), who comes to stay with him after his ex-wife (Michelle Monaghan) leaves her at his doorstep.

“I think the movie is about his becoming a man,” Dorff said at the press conference at the festival.  “A lot of characters I’m interested in are at a transition in life,” Coppola said. “Elle’s character is something real in a world not based on real things.” She said. “When I was first writing the script, Stephen came to mind.”  Dorff praised Coppola and described making the film as “one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had. It made me really sad when it ended.” Dorff went on to add, “The one thing I found very realistic … there is an isolation that happens to an actor when a film is finished, for film actors, we work together three months, then the movie ends. I don’t go to an office every day. I am kind of left with not knowing what I am going to do, until the next movie arrives.”

Coppola said she wanted to do “a portrait of today’s L.A.” and the idea for the movie took shape while she was living in France after finishing “Marie Antoinette,” her last film, and viewing Los Angeles from a distance through the pages of tabloids brought by visiting friends.  The 39-year-old director gives a fresh and often wry twist to the excesses of showbiz fame.  We believe this is exactly the type of role that will bring Stephen Dorff the accolades he deserves and the insight to know not to let it all go to his head.

Stephen Dorff & Sophia Coppola at the "Somewhere" press conference in Venice.

Coppola said she got her inspiration for the story from growing up with her father, director Francis Ford Coppola, who serves as one of the film’s executive producers. “I spent a lot of time living in hotels while on location with my dad,” she recalled. “They are an impermanent place filled with characters in transition.

”We hope “Somewhere” wins The Golden Lion – the award all Venice Festival Particpiants hope to get – and is announced September 11th this year. And we are cheering Stephen on as his career takes on a new style. Watch for him in the upcoming movies; “Born to Be A Star”, Adam Sandler‘s comedy with Don Johnson and Christina Ricci as well as “Immortals” a Greek titan film where he was cast along side of Mickey Rouke, Kellan Lutz, Frida Pinto, and Isabel Lucas.

We had the pleasure of being invited to artist Greg Lauren’s “Alteration exhibition” in West Hollywood by our lovely friend Robyn Berkley from People’s Revolution. When we walked in we were greeted with champagne and immediatley in awe of the beautiful 40 paper sculptures which Lauren hand-sewed into replica to-scale clothing. The clothes are re-created into iconic pieces he says defined him as he grew up, such as Cub Scout shirts, Superman uniforms, tuxedos and white shirts with a rack of ties. They each represent dominant male archetypes Lauren felt he had aspired to be as he developed into the man he is today.

When you make the connection between Lauren, a 40-year-old artist with a degree from Princeton in art history, and his uncle Ralph, everything starts to take on a new meaning that would not be possible for someone outside of such an iconic family. Lauren, an L.A. resident for the last ten plus years, was born and raised in New York City, where the first version of this show opened in September 2009, the Angeleno version has a few new items including 10 white paper suits, against a film loop of Cary Grant in “To Catch a Thief”.

All pieces are made from paper, none are wearable, but guests at the event certainly wished they had been, Lauren hopes to create a different type of atrifact with this unique art. “When people do make the association [with Ralph Lauren], what they don’t understand is that the world in those ads is this imaginary, aspirational place that we grew up with as kids — a place where movie stars, athletes, superheroes and high-society types mingled and hung out together. And you could be a part of it, if you wore the right things.””Growing up learning how to dress like Cary Grant, JFK and Gary Cooper but feeling inside like I was Oliver Twist.” was one of the statements Lauren made while explaining that each work in the exhibit was based on an actual vintage garment, using pieces cut by his pattern maker (costume designer Marilyn Madsen). Then he completed each piece himself, most of them using the sewing machine given to him by his mother before she died a year and a half ago.

Our friend Style Expert Rachel Zalis joined us and happened to wear a white blazer, which we had to snap the shot of her with the display, even women can appreciate menswear.

Every jacket has a real meaning behind it behind it, almost like a diary that of memories of these men that effected him and then sprung to life, similar to how Superman went from a comic book onto the silverscreen for us to all feel a real connection to. The exhibtion perfectly marries Fashion Style with Art.
