Los Angeles Fashion’s Night Out 2011 swept through the town like a hurricane. Celebrities, fashionistas, designers and bloggers all mixed and mingled at different shopping hot spots across town celebrating their universal love of fashion and one night of special sales.

At Westfield Century City, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising held a student dress design competition centered around royal Kate Middleton for inspiration.  The students had two hours to create a dress using just a few raw materials like needles, thread, tape, straight pins and retailer shopping bags. They were allowed the use of a sewing machine and ironing board, as well as a dress form on which to create their dress. The winning team received a $1500 Westfield Gift Card and a gift bag.

Westfield Century City also had a blogger bar where I met up with Jenni Pulos from Bravo’s Flipping Out and 2011 Miss California USA Katie Blair.

The Blogger Bar at the Microsoft store consisted of a lounge area complete with a digital bar that allowed you to blog live from the event while sipping on champagne and indulging in sweets from Hello Kitty Champagne, Pinkberry, See’s Candies and Vanilla Bake Shop.  After champagne and cupcakes, it was off to the most famous of all fashion boulevards, Rodeo Drive. The city of Beverly Hills goes all out for Fashion’s Night Out by shutting down Rodeo drive and allowing the boutiques to take over. It truly felt like a fashion festival with the food trucks, ferris wheel and famous designer stores spilling out onto the streets with special FNO gifts, styling and more.

The second annual Fashion’s Night Out in Los Angeles was bigger than ever before. The outpour of support from fashionistas proves that even in a tough economy style and fashion remain a very important part of everyday life.

An ideal mens outfit for an afternoon outing requires two things. A) Classic style sensibilities and B) Comfort. The seemingly effortless chic that comes with throwing on a great pair of Acne Jeans and a H&M X Lanvin cardigan over a basic teeshirt is demonstrated perfectly here by Christoph S of Santa Monica. He describes his style “minimal and not overly contrived.” As a college student, he finds that with the  addition of a crisp cardigan, a comfortable day look can go straight into a summers evening outfit.

One of the spots he likes to shop for similar styles in Los Angeles is the ultra trendy Opening Ceremony on La Cienega in Los Angeles where a full range of the Acne Jeans Collection is carried, as well as other amazing lines.

And by adding a pop of color with a pair of brown Zara desert  boots, and a long necklace, the timeless look that Chrstoph put together  is very reminiscent of time when quality basic pieces said more about a man then studs leather, and monograms.

Felt like a kid again! U rock!!” And later that night attended Brent Bolthouse, 944 and Armani Exchange’s Carnival party off site.

The Desginer Behind Lanvin

Lanvin artistic director and H&M Fall 2010 collaborator, Alber Elbaz.

Alber Elbaz is the artistic director of Lanvin in Paris and has been since 2001, after working in the fashion industry for more than 13 years. He has earned honors such as The International Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and named as One of the 100 Most Influential People of the Year by Time Magazine in 2007.

Elbaz helped to make Lanvin, the oldest fashion house worldwide, a favorite among celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, and Chloé Sevigny.

Lanvin for H&M- The Show

H&M has launched several designer collaborations with luxury brands since 2004 to build their fashion house, but this Lanvin collaboration is the most anticipated to date.

Check out Lanvin for H&M- The Show, a video sneak peek of the Lanvin x H&M collaboration, to watch video of all of the pieces from the collection.

Mark your calendar:  These pieces hit the H&M stores on November 23 rd.

Material girl Madonna and her thirteen year old daughter Lourdes have a new line at Macy’s called New Material. And yes, we here at Style Seen Daily have a sneak peak at some of the pieces.

New Material offers clothing, shoes, jewelry and handbags influenced by this pop mugol mom’s 1980s style.  In sum, get ready for loads of lace and girly frills like roses and ruffles.

The line is meant for teenagers (but that isn’t set in stone) and the clothing items are on average less than $40.

From top, black mini dress with white washed out accents for $24, fun flirty floral skirt for $22 at Macy’s, studded rocker vest for $58 at Macy’s.

So get ready for the 80′s flashback with this line come August 2010, just in time for Madonna’s 52nd birthday (August 16).  We’ll make sure to include it in our Style Seen Daily Showroom as soon as it’s ready for purchase because “you know that we’re living in a material world.”  Well at least Madanna hopes that.

PARIS — A second high-style/low-price hook-up took place last week from the same source: Tokyo Fast Retailing, which is the umbrella company of the American brand Theory.

Olivier Theyskens, the Belgian designer known for a couture sensibility, has been tapped by Andrew Rosen, chief executive officer of Theory. In the spirit of the Jil Sander/Uniqlo collaboration — but at a middle-market price point — Mr. Theyskens is taking to Main Street an aesthetic that has formerly been seen at the Paris houses Nina Ricci and Rochas.

“I think it is a breakthrough for the next generation — it has to do with clothes that are not so preciously made, but made with great integrity,” said Mr. Rosen, who founded Theory in 1997 in partnership with Elie Tahari. “Today, you can’t just be good — you have to be great. I want to be proud of the clothes I make.”

Mr. Theyskens, 33, admits that he has had problems reconciling his haute design with the frustration that it was unapproachable to his own generation.

“For a long time I have been thinking about affordable fashion — you can be disappointed when not so many people can wear your stuff,” Mr. Theyskens said. It was a learning curve to work with Theory to make “a perfect modern look” and take responsibility for its development, he said.

The Theyskens capsule collection, which will be shown in New York in September for the Spring 2011 season, by appointment, will fill the barren middle ground between high street and high end. This is the territory that Mr. Rosen has explored with Theory, aiming for a no-fuss emphasis on wearable, well-made clothes.

“I think the space is very crowded and the idea is to find new ways to stimulate the customer,” said the executive, who met Mr. Theyskens by chance when he was launching a book in New York.

Eager shoppers have been teased with short-lived collections from major designers ever since Karl Lagerfeld partnered with H&M in 2004, setting off a slew of further collaborations from Comme des Garçons at H&M to the current Stella McCartney line for GapKids.

But if Theory succeeds in bringing designer clothing down to a reasonable price on a more permanent basis, it will help usher in what already seems like the dawn of a new 21st-century fashion era.

Los Angeles is not really known as a place to experience new music, at least not these days, but we have a new found hope after our friend Beau Swayze from CAA invited us out to see this Australian band Andy Clockwise. Andy Kelly, a.k.a. Andy Clockwise along with his drummer Stella Mozgawa and Bassist Josh Norton rocked the famous Troubador. Not only did they impress us with their music, but we loved their style.

We’ve never wanted to be a performer more in our life, the female drummer Stella, who has a resume of playing with Smashing Pumpkins, KISS, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Perry Ferrell – to name a few – rocked her own style while rocking the room with her drumming skills. Doning a furry hat with ear flaps, black shorts, black tights with a run in them and a proper white blouse. Now usually we would say no one looks good in tights with holes, but if you saw Stella, well she can pulled it off – even that hat worked. Maybe its that we were in awe of her energy, or maybe it was just that she seemed like that sort of rocker chick we all have once wanted to be, in like an iconic Joan Jett way, whatever the case, we are big fans now.

She and the lead singer Andy created an electric energy that kept you both moving and staring, while the bassist rocked in and out of the act in the most perfect way. Then just when we did not think we could love Stella anymore, she jumped out from behind her drums and broke into song with Andy, “Open Relationship“, the words made us smile, laugh, even blush, and the beat forced us to bust a move. In an effort to share this song with you, we found a video, not the best quality, but its the best we have for now. Hopefully we can direct you to purchase their music sooner than later.

Style is certainly best when its original and unique, not only did Andy Clockwise win our ears, they won our eyes and we can’t wait to see what is next for them. A combination of Beck, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and maybe even Prince, with soul screams, a sense of humor, dual drumming and jumping into the crowds, they had us at hello, just like Tom Cruise did in Jerry Macguire.

To get Stella’s look and explore your own rockstar, even if it just means blasting music in your car and singing at the top of your lungs, we suggest the following;
1. white blouse, tommy hilfiger
2. black shorts, h&m
3. semi-opaque black tights, h&m
