The red carpet’s been rolled up for yet another year, and you can almost hear the entire city take a deep breath and relax.  As the celebrity pomp and circumstance make an exit from stage right – what’s left is the “OMG, did you see what she was wearing” and the “how can I get that look”.   Just as much a tradition as “thanking the Academy” on award’s night is dissecting the styles and looks from the Oscars and making them your own.   While you may not go all out J-Lo for your next date night – even a touch of new trend can update your look and keep you in the here and now.  Here’s the cliff notes version from this year’s big event…

Denim is a must have wardrobe essential, the more the better.  However durable denim is, the styles do change and we here at Style Seen Daily have put together this fall denim report to help you continue to be a denim doll.  Trends for fall denim are a continuation of summer styles with an edgy twist. Trendsetters and celebrities like Beyonce, Heidi KlumKhloe Kardashian and Leighton Meester are rocking the latest in denim styles like tapered skinny  jeansjeggings and the boyfriend look with lose jeans cuffed and chambray shirts as the weather turns cooler.

The Skinny On Skinny Jeans

Beyonce rocking the gray jegging trend.

Skinny jeans are still a hot denim piece. Darker washes update this style, with colors ranging from gray and black to acid wash.  Triple threat super star Beyonce is known to be a fan of jeggings and is rocking the grey jegging trend in the picture above. Jeggings are a type of skinny jean, it’s a mix between leggings and denim.  How to wear skinny jeans: Pair with a tunic style top for a flattering look.  Body shapes that look best in skinny jeans: Boyish frames and those with longer legs.

Tapered leg styles are the revamped version of jeggings for those who do not want to the jean to be too skintight.Darker stonewashed styles have been popping up in stores, making it feel very 90s.   We like this pair here made by Denim of Virtue.

The Boyfriend Look, But Better

Kim Kardashian seen here in slimmer boyfriend jeans.

The boyfriend cut is the alternative to jeggings. This time around the boyfriend cut has been modified to a straighter leg, making the style more flattering compared to the baggier styles of the past. Rolling the cuff of the jean is a good way to transition the look from summer to fall. Reality celebrity Kim Kardashian wears cuffed boyfriend jeans out and about in Los Angeles, proving that this style works on curvy bodies as well.

The Gap makes a few great boyfriend jeans, starting at $69.50, which is definitely easy on everyone’s pockets.

Leighton Meester wearing one of the hottest denim trends of the season, a chambray shirt.

Chambray shirts are one of the hottest denim trends this fall that can be a staple in anyone’s wardrobe regardless of style and age.   It looks like it could be your lover’s shirt — but more tailored. Gossip Girl‘s Leighton Meester has been incorporating the chambray shirt into her more casual looks when she hits the town.

For an ediger look, the chambray shirt looks great with a black or dark blue jegging. Belting the shirt helps to create a wonderful silhouette.  Prepsters can incorporate a lighter chambray shirt, for example the shirt below from J. Crew $98.

Here’s a style secret that you may not have considered: what you wear under there can make or break your look. No one may “see” your bra-du-jour, but if your undergarments are oh-so wrong, it is oh-so obvious and you’re advertising your fashion faux-pas to, well — everyone who sees you.

Let’s get specific: eight out of every ten women are currently wearing the wrong bra size, and the collective style quotient of our gender is being brought down. Ladies – this is embarrassing – let’s not lie, but it’s thankfully an issue easily remedied.

If you’re not doing major denim this year, you’re missing the style mark. And, we’re not just talking skinnys around town, or dark wash for date night, we’re talking layer it on, get a little rowdy, head-to-toe DENIM.  Stomp it up in some double jean duds and rock the denim louder.  Yes, this takes guts.  We all remember all too clearly the acid wash uniforms of the 80s, and well, it’s not something anyone wants to relive, but put your best fashion foot forward and try on the 2010 take.  It’s so much better; I promise.  Here are the cursory rules and regs for doing it up in denim  CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Buff and polish those gams, gals, and make that final play to tighten that tummy – it’s swimwear season and you are going to love the suit trends for this summer.  But first, here’s a little dish on a Victoria’s Secret swimwear party that made quite a splash last week in Los Angeles:

The Victoria’s Secret swimwear party last week in Beverly Hills was the place to be if you are a model or model lover. The VS Angels were there in full force, including swimsuit vixens Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio. Of course model-loving actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Piven and Kevin Connolly were just a handful of hunks on hand.  And, we all know it’s not a hot party without the party heiress herself, Paris Hilton, who was in an extremely good mood chatting with party goers, her on-again off-again BFF Nicole Ritchie and her former flame Benji Madden.  Waitresses who could easily grace the pages of a VS catalog themselves passed out chocolate covered strawberries and champagne.  The walls were covered with VS models posing in iconic swimsuits and plasma screens looped behind the scenes video from the shoot.  Simply stated, there was no way I was eating a chocolate covered strawberry but the party did inspire me to revisit my swimsuit collection. With swimsuits, just like chocolate, one is never enough. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Move over plaid – florals have taken top shelf as the look ‘o the season. Bold bouquets of bright blooms have sprouted up on everything from flirty summer dresses to pretty printed handbags to ruffled, flowered flats.

Not sure that begonias are becoming?  Before you pass on the pansies, take note, this trend is taking root and sticking around, and, it’s not as intimidating as it looks.  Worn wrong, yes – it conjures images of your grandmother’s upholstered couch or an old-school Little House on the Prairie throwback.  But, worn right, feminine florals are fresh and bubbly – an unexpected pop of lively style that reeks of confidence and that elusive “put togethered-ness”.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE.

A onesie, a jumpsuit, a romper, a playsuit – one piece styles are officially here to stay.  This tricky trend can be intimidating, but wicked fun to wear.   And,  since it’s quickly migrating to mainstream, it’s time to get your brave on, and give it a go.

First, let’s define the terms: jumpsuits include long pants, rompers are short but dressier, and playsuits are extra casual shorts sets – although the names are often interchanged.    Style caution – when worn wrong, these trend savvy onesuits can be wince-worthy and unflattering, or scream “put me back in the playpen, mommy”.  With a few romper rules in place however, you’ll be strutting your one piece with the best of them.
