R & B Singer Jay Sean hosted the second annual “Rock/Style” fashion event at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s Tropicana bar by Los Angeles Times Magazine on June 1, 2011. All eyes were on the runway over the pool as L.A. Models showcased collections of summer trends from Macy’s.
In between fashion shows I took advantage of the chill down time and chatted it up with numerous Style Seen Daily friends like Jay Sean, Skylar Grey, Holly Madison and Chad Rogers.
Sean is just weeks away from having a new album drop, and enjoys being in his new place of residence — Los Angeles – for a little bit before having to go back to his “home” — the jet. It’s nonstop traveling for the Sean crew as his career is continuing to skyrocket. Jay is very much into fashion. And it is official, and I got him to agree, that he is a sunglass and sneaker feen (ofcourse I love it) — Jay has at least 60 pairs of sunglasses and more than 300 pairs of kicks in his new LA closet. Not bad Sean, not bad. He shared that for his upcoming music video coming out next week, he decided to keep his style super simple and just don a white tee shirt. ”I wanted to focus on the lyrics of the song,” Sean explained.
Me with Jay Sean, such an absolute sweetheart! Sean hosted the second annual "Rock/Style" event by Los Angeles Times Magazine at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on June 1, 2011.
Kali Hawk looked so good we are going to write up a sep. entry just on her sexy style. Keep a lookout for it.
A special jacket made for a special guy: Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush Actor Stephen Kramer Glickman sported a one of a kind light up jacket by LRG. I need to hit up LRG to make this AGAIN for one of my luvs. You know I'm putting that call in tomorrow. ;)

Before Katherine's transformation at the Lakewood Center, in Lakewood Calfiornia.
Katherine of West Valley is in charge of putting together a huge annual black tie charity event – she is very picky about the glamorous event — and is convinced that wearing her old high school prom dress is still OK. Her high school prom dress is from 31 years ago! While Katherine is low on dresses, she has more than enough purses to wear a different one every day for a year! Katherine came to us because she wanted to do something new and fun with her style. And she didn’t trust her friends with giving her the truth. Katherine was more than ready for our Stranger Change Her one day make over, and Crystal Fambrini had to problem taking that prom dress away.
First up, Katherine stepping into the Stranger Chamber, this time at Lakewood center, as shoppers told us their thoughts on what we should change about Katherine.

Watch Katherine’s “after” segment here:
Crystal took Katherine to JC Penneyand Forever 21 to find her gala outfit — proving that looking glam didn’t have to cost a fortune and Katherine could spend the money she saved on a purse (which you know she loved).

With Katherine’s new wardrobe settled, it was time to move onto the ultimate fashion accessories, hair and makeup. With help from our friends at the Shiseido counter at Macys and the Regis Hair Salon, Katherine was transforming from mediocre mom to a black tie gala girl.

Katherine’s friends and family all gathered to see her transformation at the KTLA News studio for the live reveal. Katherine was styled in a gorgeous tangerine ball gown perfect for her annual charity gala, thanks to JC Penney. And accessories by Forever 21.

It’s that special time of year—not the holidays, obviously, but the time of year when you really just don’t know what type of weather you’re going to have. It’s freezing and drizzling one day, and 90 degrees the next—how’s anyone supposed to keep up? You may have your flip flops on as you’re reading this and think it’s a little batty to shop for coats, but chances are, sometime in the next week or so, you’ll be going back to that warmer jacket and bundling up. We noticed this week that almost every place we love to shop has outerwear on sale—and because we love a great sale, and we know you do too—let’s talk about weathering the weather in style.
There have been several exciting new coat trends to emerge this year, and sale time is the best time to dip your toe in new trends. Think bubbly bombers and shearling aviators, sleek camel coats, mega-hot military styles, and our favorite—the oh-so fresh and cute cape coat.
We’re tagging on our top three this time around—but we’ve been crazy about all of the above this season. Thank goodness there are so many days in a year—who can choose just one?
Take a peek at our picks and let us know what you’ve been hankering for:
Es-Cape
Macy’s at Westside Pavilion ($54.99 on sale now).
Ordinary is, well, just so ordinary. Get away from the expected this year and reach for the adorably avant-garde in the form of a clever cape coat. Tell me you don’t love the title of “trend-setter”. We fell for this perky plaid coat from Macy’s at Westside Pavilion ($54.99 on sale now).
Parka Perfection
from Banana Republic at Los Cerritos Center ($175).
Looking for a picturesque look for your around the town shopping or casual lunch dates? Pick a parka and bask in cool understated style—these are the “oh I just threw this on” effortless pieces that lend to the air of being collected but never fussy. We adored this version from Banana Republic at Los Cerritos Center ($175).
Bombshell
JCPenney at Lakewood Center ($98.99 down from $330).
Move over Maverick—you’re not the only one that is smokin’ in high-flying style. Choose a cropped leather bomber jacket or a shearling aviator and make a memorable trend maneuver. We vote for this shearling jacket from JCPenney at Lakewood Center ($98.99 down from $330).
"Stranger Change Her" pick Alice's reveal (Alice in blue) with friends and family, SSD Co Founder Crystal Fambrini, and KTLA Anchor Jessica Holmes at the KTLA Morning Show.
Alice of Glendora is a mother of two, a professional volunteer, an artist and VERY eager for a change as she was sick and tired of people thinking her kids were her grandkids! Can you blame her? So,Style Seen Daily and KTLA joined forces to help Alice find a new look and gain the self-confidence she needed and deserved.

In one day we gave Alice a new wardrobe, a new hairstyle, and new makeup. But first, Alice had to stand in our “Stranger Change Her” at the Westside Pavillion mall for one hour while shoppers critiqued her look and told us what kind of looks would be best for her.

Watch Alice’s “before” here:
The launch of Stranger Change-Her was a huge success as Alice wowed her friends and family with an incredible new look and a great sense of confidence.
Watch Alice’s “after” here:
Alice’s outfit, a blue structured blouse, black pants, stylish heeled clogs, and beaded necklace were from Lane Bryant at Westside Pavillion. Crystal also surprised Alice with a Michael Kors White jacket from Macy’s at Westside Pavilion.

We made sure to find Alice clothes that accentuated her positives and were more fitted than her usual painting tees and jeans. We also tried to get her out of her comfort zone of sneakers and drab colors, so the clogs and cobalt blue shirt were a perfect fit for her.

Her hair was colored and styled at the Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills. They took the critique of the mall shoppers who said she should stay blonde but go a shade darker. The cut and color are manageable and Alice told us that she loves it. She got her eyebrows shaped and make up done by Valerie from Valerie of Beverly Hills – all this shaved off years on her age!
Alice’s primary complaint of receiving comments that she looked like her kids’ grandmother, rather than Mom is now gone!

Her children Sarah, 14, and Jacob, 11, love their Mom’s new look. “She looks different… in a good way,” Jacob said about his newly stylish mother. Julie Henry, Alice’s girl scout troupe co-leader thought Alice’s reveal was fantastic. ”She deserved it, she does so much for everybody else all the time, so its nice for her to have something for herself.”
All of Alice's friends, family, and girl scouts, were so surprised to see her new look, and they loved it. Photo Credit: SSD
In the end, Alice loved the experience and now knows how to shop for “the right things,” she said. She took the advice from the strangers like a champ and was able to turn herself from drab to fab.

Where's Waldo The Complete Collection, a Macy's Exclusive Gift.
Shopping for the children on your list is often the highlight of the holiday, right under “accidentally” shopping for yourself, of course. You can’t top the enthusiasm of a seven-year-old or the awe of a five-year-old opening presents—we all know their joy makes the season brighter. Rest assured—the hot gifts for kids we have listed below are child-approved, i.e., they are golden, and will elicit said joy. So, without further adieu, here are our top five picks for the little ones:
Twice as Nice. Hats off to playtime this holiday–these knit layers will keep them warm this winter and turn them into wily animals too. It’s trendy to love pretending—so let them laugh and oink, leap and bark their way to having a great time. We found these at Macy’s at The Shops at Montebello ($14.98).
Kinect the Dots. It’s the talk of the town this holiday, and if you’d like to be the Santa of the season, you should start your shopping here. Xbox 360’s new Kinect technology lets them run, jump and dance their favorite video games without ever touching a video game controller. The gaming system’s motion detection device translates every one of their movements into action on the screen for hours of fascinating, get-up-and-play fun. Don’t think you won’t be right there with them—it’s contagious. We found our set up at GameStop inside Inland Center ($399.99).
Pick a Pillow. Yes, really. These novel friends are a pillow AND a pet, and the kids dig ‘em. Choose a bright bumblebee, a perky panda, or a chunky little monkey and get bonus points for having the inside scoop on what’s all the rage this year. Our cozy bed buddies came from Target at Lakewood Center ($19.99).
Toy Joy. Disney has done it again, anything Toy Story 3 is epic this year and universally loved. Pick this true-to-the-movie Jessie doll complete with antique style packaging and old-school pull cord on her back—genius.
Or if your mini loves Woody, indulge his over-active imagination with this pj set that will have him reenacting his favorite parts in the movie—in costume, of course. These are going like hotcakes at the Disney Store at Westside Pavilion ($59.99 and $16.50, respectively).
Picture Perfect. So maybe they won’t squeal in delight when they open these too-cute winter get-ups, but how can you resist? Choose head-to-toe coordinated outfits for a gift that will be appreciated by all those over 12 in the room. These tot togs are from Gymboree at Los Cerritos Center (pieces ranging from $4.49 to $17.99).
We saw these sassy little slippers at Charlotte Russe at Inland Center for a steal ($17.50).

Don’t let your presents be lost in the pile of holiday packages—give gifts that will long be favorites after the hustle and bustle of the holidays has past. Yes, this takes extra thought and maybe even some research—what’s hot, what’s not and especially, what’s uber trend-worthy for 2010. Oh wait, we’ve already done that for you. Here’s your cheat sheet of what to get, where—take this shopping with you and call it a day. We’re seeing more relaxing days in December in your future than ever before—and you’re welcome.
Hot for Him. Do him something handsome and pick a rugged I-just-lounged by the fire Fair Isle sweater, or, help him conquer the clutter with a charging station for his smart phone and other tech essentials. If he’s been extra good this year, indulge him with that iPad he’s been eyeing from the Apple store at Los Cerritos Center ($499).
Haute for Her. Glamour is “in”; choose a decadent bejeweled cocktail ring, or help her make as statement this winter with a tailored velvet blazer. And, get the nod of approval when she opens a pair of trend-forward studded leather gloves, like this pair we snagged from Banana Republic at The Oaks ($69.50).
Choice for the Children. If you truly want to be the favorite, treat them with a trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop, and make them glow with a new cozy bedtime buddy like this rosy-nosed reindeer we spotted at The Shops at Montebello ($90.00 for the pair shown). Also good for lighting up the little ones this holiday—write this down—anything Toy Story or Zhu Zhu related.
Keepers for the Kids at Heart. Some of us are technically above the age of 12, but on the inside—you wouldn’t know it. For these perpetual Peter Pans, the new Kinectics game system is a video game dream come true, and “the” gift of the year. Also sure-fire winners—remote controlled helicopters or a Star Wars themed cookie cutter or pancake mold set—we found ours at Williams-Sonoma in The Oaks (both $19.95).
Gotta Get These Gifts Under $25. Stocking stuffers of gifts for your cubicle mate—no matter—these grab-and-go gifts are where it’s at. Pick up a re-useable coffee sleeve in designs for him or her, look for a radio for the shower (who doesn’t sing while shampooing) like this mirrored version we saw at Macy’s at Inland Center ($24.99 on sale) or bag a few stackable bangles in neon brights or rhinestones.
The new fashion momentum is bringing back old-world glamour and reintroducing pearls as fresh go-to accessories and embellishments for the season. Pearls may have temporarily gotten a bad rap for being the costume jewelry of your frumpy Aunt, or it may conjure images of beaded puff-sleeved wedding gowns from three decades ago — but these aren’t those pearls.
Your favorite retailers, your celebrity style gurus, clothing and jewelry designers everywhere have taken notice of this time defying trend and are piling them on — adorning cardigans, pairing them with metallic chains and ribbons in rich necklaces, and topping off chunky cocktail rings. Pearls are the quintessential accessory for fall and winter — you want them.
Here’s a peek at the top three ways we like to wear them:
Cultured Couture
We snagged this one from Metropark at The Oaks ($20.30).
Pearl necklaces are traditional, sure, but have gotten a makeover for a little twist. Look for tiers of mixed mediums—edgy chains, whimsical ribbons and glittering beads offset the refined sass of perfect pearls. Top off any look—night or day—with this versatile piece for an instant style update. We snagged this one from Metropark at The Oaks ($20.30).
Pearls of Wisdom
Macy’s at Lakewood Center ($38).
We can learn a thing or two about style from those trend-setters of yesteryear. Pearls have long been lauded as lust-worthy—and now we’re seeing them from inventive new angles. We’re positively purring about the latest pearl-studded tops and sweaters—choose a blast from the 80s past, like this scoop neck sweater tunic we saw at Macy’s at Lakewood Center ($ 38) or curl up in a pearl adorned cardigan for a sweet and tidy take on the look.
Pearly Mates
New York & Company at The Shops at Montebello ($16.95).
Get attached to a signature pearl accessory with a little weight to it. Look for clustered pearl and gem cocktail rings, or a pearl-laden cuff bracelets and call attention to a trend-forward statement piece for the season. You can find these fun holiday looks at every price point — we love this one from New York & Company at The Shops at Montebello ($16.95).
