For a retro, Mad Men-inspired look, try a classy below-the-knee A-line or pencil skirt. Yes, ladies, it is definitely flattering to just show off your ankles. I would pair these skirts with a fitted tank or sweater like GG’s Blair Waldorf, or a blazer to make it even more throwback classy. Don’t be afraid to raid your closet for old designs from the 60′s and 70′s, even the 90′s!

The award winning AMC show Mad Men is not only attracting millions of viewers in its fourth season, but it is inspiring fashionistas everywhere to throw it back to the 60’s. Hollywood actors like Piper Perabo and Alexis Bledel are sporting retro styles to red carpets, and fashion lines everywhere are offering old-school trends that are hot hot hot.

To channel January Jones’ Mad Men character Betty Draper, try high-waisted skirts, sweetheart necklines and pearls. She takes on that traditional 60’s housewife look, and those classics never go out of style. Perabo’s mesh-topped dress is so stylish and shows off her great body with a cinched waist. Betty Draper would have totally worn this dress, if a few inches were added to the hemline. Alice + Olivia makes beautiful dresses complete with a-line skirts, bright patterns, and conservative traits, mixed in with high hemlines to bring the look into the 21st century.

Christina Hendricks’ character Joan Halloway isn’t afraid to show off her curves with tight knee-length skirts, boat necks, and bold colors. Pairing a Mad Men inspired piece like an A-line dress or high-waisted skirt with a funky pair of tights, some leather, or a wild accessory will help add a little modern flare to your vintage look. Bledel goes with a business-casual navy skirt and silk blouse but tops it off with red-hot heels and a leopard print bag. She shows off her 1960′s style without losing her 2010 edge.

Ladies, get your man dolled up like Jon Hamm’s Don Draper with a sharp, tailored blue or black suit with the newest mens trend: the skinny tie. Hot celebs like Zac Efron and Ryan Seacrest have been spotted on the red carpet in these classic looks and it is definitely working for them.  Hugo Boss makes some of the sleekest styles for men this season, and the thin textured tie paired with a classic silk suit will surely help your man look sharp.

We love seeing these beautiful retro looks coming back in Hollywood, so don’t be afraid to add a spark of 60’s to your look, or even go all out Mad Men, either way you will be on trend in 2010.

Not only is Man Men a great show to watch but it’s look is getting infused into our style as well.

And yes there is a Mad Men Rolling Stone issue ofcourse, and it hits newsstands September 16 with a feature story on AMC’s hit. The feature goes behind the scenes of Mad Men and explains why the cast was chosen and why Mad Men is the best show on television right now.

The following is an excerpt of an article from the September 16, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone.

In the opening scene of the new season of Mad Men, an interviewer asks Draper, “Who is Don Draper?” Rather than confess the truth — that he’s a flimflam man who fabricated his whole identity from a dead Korean War officer and built his entire life on a lie en route to a Madison Avenue advertising career — Draper merely takes a drag on his cigarette. “I’m from the Midwest,” he says. “We were taught it’s not polite to talk about yourself.”

In a sense, Mad Men is Weiner’s attempt to figure out this question for himself. He has created an elaborate pageant of American fantasies — guys and dolls who look like they have it all, even when their private worlds are complete frauds. The advertising wizards of Mad Men swagger through the office, knock back cocktails, knock back lovers. They live out JFK-era America’s tawdriest dreams, almost as if it’s a professional code — to sell these dreams to America, they have to experience them from the inside, with all their inherent betrayal and manipulation. After three seasons on AMC, a basic-cable network previously known for endless reruns of second-rate movies, Mad Men established a hold on America’s fantasy life like no show since The Sopranos. “The big question the show is trying to answer through Don has to do with identity,” Weiner says. “Who am I? — It’s only the biggest theme in all of Western literature.”

To make it happen, Weiner assembled a cast he could relate to — veteran actors who had spent their careers toiling in relative obscurity. Jon Hamm, who plays Draper, had a few scenes in We Were Soldiers. January Jones, who plays his brittle and ethereal ex-wife, Betty, showed up in the thirdAmerican Pie movie as Stifler’s love interest. Christina Hendricks, who rules the offices of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce as Joan, appeared in a video for the Nineties rock band Everclear. Nobody wanted them. Today, everybody knows their names, everybody covets their careers, everybody wants to get next to them.

The last issue of Rolling Stone took a bite out of the vampire crazy with the cast of True Blood.

On television’s biggest night, there was no short supply of style or fashion. At the 62nd Annual Primtime EMMY Awards white was definitely the hottest color on this year’s red carpet. Kim Kardashian looked stunning in a grecian style white Marchesa dress. Many other celebrities, including Julie Benz of ‘Dexter’ and “Damages” actress Rose Byrne. were also spotted wearing white gowns. Even Bryan Batt of ‘Mad Men’ was spotted wearing a white suit jacket to top off his look.

Another big trend on this year’s red carpet was navy dresses. Lea Michele of ‘Glee’ worked a strapless, navy Oscar De La Renta gown that she accented with a diamond Lorraine Schwartz choker. Jane Krakowski donned a head to toe navy look. The ’30 Rock’ actress’ Escada gown was paired with blue satin Salvatore Ferragamo peep toe heels and blue satin clutch to tie it all together.

Although white and navy were the stand out colors on this year’s red carpet, many other celebrities still made their mark on the red carpet with their own looks. Claire Danes of ‘Temple Grandin’ and Heather Morris were both glowing in sequined dresses. The ‘Temple Grandin’ actress looked elegant in an Armani Prive gown that was encrusted with Swarovski crystals, while Morris, of “Glee”  wore a gold Ina Solanti gown paired with a Swarovski clutch.

Style Seen Daily friend Jessica Lowndes of The CW’s hit series 90210 attended the Audi and Chopard Pre-Emmy event in Los Angeles on August 22, 2010 in a sexy throwback to the 50′s with a modern twist look.  We really liked her  Matthew Williamson Resort 2011 brown and gold printed dress.

Matthew Williamson’s designs are always inspired by his travels to around the world, and this collection is no exception. The Resort 2011 collection features Williamson’s structured silhouettes with exotic prints on every piece. The plunging neckline and pleated skirt of Jessica’s dress gave it a sexy yet sophisticated feel, and was reminiscent of styles from Mad Men.

We like how Jessica completed the look with a  pair of  chocolate-colored, snake print Stuart Weitzman Lille peep-toe heels. Stuart Wietzman’s creative designs have been known to walk the red carpet, specifically by offering a “one-of-a-kind” shoe to one celebrity to wear on Oscar night. Look for exotic prints and animal prints to be a hot trend in shoes this fall.

Always a fashionista, take a look at some other great articles where we feature Miss Lowndes.  Below, Jessica in a sexy strapless Lipsy dress, that launched in the United States Summer 2010. Click here for Lipsy coverage.
