Ah, take a sigh of fresh air and say goodbye to 2010. Kind of strange to think that 11 years ago, we all thought Y2K was going to crash the world and we would be in post-apocalyptic hell. Machines running the Earth, having to eat food from a can, total damnation. Yet, here we are, another decade down and we’re still texting and enjoying days at the gym. Which brings me to the most dreaded area of a new year… resolutions.
Kicking back and looking at the things you promised yourself you would do last year and how you most likely failed at them, can be depressing. My advice, set some realistic goals this year so that you can follow them. Instead of saying you’ll lose 20 lbs, why not say you’ll make an effort to eat a little healthier or hit the gym at least 3 times a week? And, let’s face it ladies, us guys know how you love to change us. Always yelling at us to pick up our socks, shave our face and lose that gut. We hear you, we just like to gravitate toward the ignoring of you. No offense intended, we’re men, we like to do things our own way.
My genius brain has put together a list of fun resolutions you can do together, where it would seem less of a hassle and more of an adventure. Here we go…
#1 - Get Fit – Together
Yes, we do need a spotter when pumping massive amounts of iron, but when you are in a relationship, you need a spotter in other aspects. For instance, hitting the local track to do a brisk walk starts off as a quick step, but after a few days turns into a jog. By the end of the year, you’ll be competing in who can sprint the fastest mile.A little health competition never hurt anyone, and can bring out the laughter once in a while.
#2 – Listing Adventures - Together
Are you dying to jump out of a plane? Play you first round of golf? Finally seeing the Empire State Building? A list of things neither of you have done, is a great way to have things to look forward to… together. It doesn’t have to be as extreme as climbing Mt. Everest, but it can be as fun. Things like attending a film festival or test driving a Porsche are all things that get the adrenaline going and keeping those spirits alive.
#3 – Learning New Things – Together
There’s always a class of some sort that will teach you something you’re dying to learn. Everything from gourmet cooking, to learning PhotoShop, are interesting ways to expand your brain and help each other grow. For instance, remember in high school when you had a study-buddy? Most of the time if it was one of the opposite sex, you’d be a little distracted. But now, it’s later in life and the two of you can enjoy each others perspective on the same topic. But remember, ladies, try to pick a course that the both of you can really learn from and enjoy.
In closing, these few suggestions are just little things to help the big picture. With something new in your life, it gives you something to look forward to and get excited over. Of course, these things are even great to do on your own. Put aside the “I can’t” attitude and think positive about the future! Happy New Year!
