The simple formula of effortless chic has travelled with us throughout the past years and nothing said it stronger than the menswear collections freshly presenting their offerings around the globe. A dizzying array of colours, shapes and textiles rocked fashion world however a few strong themes emerged.

Every season designers attempt for the holy grail of menswear: “The New Suit”. This consists each season of designers picking and pulling at a traditional suit until the desired shape of the season comes to be. The tailored vibe that has struck such a strong chord has definitely continued on into the summer months, thankfully however the fashion gods were merciful and this season’s reincarnations of suits are anything but buttoned up.

These new relaxed, easy styles evoke that “just threw on yet impeccably put together” look. Softer fabrics being shown structurally condense menswear, and giving way to a wider silhouette on the bottom from anywhere in the range of carrot trousers to full length skirts and robes.

Freedom rings with mix and match separates ranging from the most casual of sports coats to even in the most formal of tuxedos dominating the runways. There is also a play upon adding and subtracting classic menswear elements, such as ditching ties or jackets but keeping the rest of the look.

Full tonal pairings as well from matching shorts and t-shirts in exact textiles, to four piece suits in cohesive separate fabrics yet all from the same color palette.

Now that fall has arrived, men out there need to update their wardrobes. The military look, which is ever popular this year, as well as plaid and cardigans, which are already favorites of  Usher, Joe Jonas and Pharrell Williams,  all play a large part in fashion for men this fall. Tailored jackets and combat boots, are also big players this season and have already been spotted on celebrities like Will Smith, and Hayden Christensen. Many looks this upcoming season are updates of past trends with a new flair. Here at Style Seen Daily we want to bring you some key trends to look for when sprucing up your cold weather wardrobe.

Tailored Jacket

An essential trend this fall for men is the tailored jacket or blazer, and not just any blazer. A velvet blazer is the jacket of choice this season for men. This luxurious fabric can add just the right amount of dapper to any man’s wardrobe. Though velvet isn’t usually seen in menswear, it can easily be worn over an oxford shirt or paired with a pair of jeans for a well-polished look. The Perry Ellis velvet blazer is a great one to spruce up an outfit during those cool autumn months.

Plaid, which always seems to pop up  during cool autumn months, is making a major comeback in menswear this fall. Although plaid is typically seen on items like flannel shirts, this season it is making an appearance in a whole new way on neckties, sweaters, and even computer cases.  Celebrities like Joe Jonas have already been seen going mad for plaid.

Another huge menswear trend this season is the cardigan. Cardigans are such a versatile piece of any wardrobe and come in all sorts of styles that can be worn in many different ways. This fall brands such as, BOSS, have updated the cardigan for men to give it a more  polished look. This classic piece can easily be paired with jeans for a casual look or worn with slacks and carried into the office.

Rapper and Producer Pharrell Williams was spotted in a key item for men's fashion this fall, the cardigan.

Pharrell Williams, spotted in a white cable-knit cardigan, pairs this classic sweater with jeans for a casual, yet sophisticated look.

Military

This military inspired look was one of many that graced the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 Runway.

The military look has been seen all over runways for the Fall 2010 season, and menswear is no exception for this key trend. Pieces like aviator jackets and utility pants in an array of greys and blues are essential parts of this trend. This look can easily be dressed up or down and incorporated into many different styles. Pair a sleek military-style jacket with dark jeans and a sweater for an outfit that is simple and nostalgic, yet still masculine.

Wondering what’s the latest in men’s fashion?  Well here’s a quick list of the Spring trends for him you can now find in the stores…

1. Casual Chic: Also known as “California Style.”  Includes graphc t-shirts, plaid shorts and twill jackets.

2.  Boardroom Bound:  Look for classic investment items in shades of blue and gray but make sure they fit perfectly, and if not make sure to find a great tailor.

3.  Check Please:  Bright plaid shirts are great for the hot weather.  Can be worn under a suit jacket for the work week or over a graphic t-shirt for the weekend.

4.  The Denim Story:  Black, white, gray jeans are great for moving into Spring ’09.  Keep your blue jeans, but try to hold off on wearing them as much and incorporate these fashion forward, yet staple, colors.

Trend Alert — Menswear Americana Amour

Outdoorsy, rugged look is one of the main looks shaping menswear as we head further into 2009.  It’s called the vintage Americana trend.  Items include: button down red white and blue plaid shirts, jackets with plaid lining, lumberjack jackets and rugged work boots (that aren’t really for work).  These classic pieces will always be popular (hence the “classic” title) as long as you don’t go overboard and make your look like a costume.  It’s about incorporating certain pieces into your staple wardrobe.  Mix and match to your style.  And since it is “Americana” it would be nice if you actually bought clothes that are made in the USA.
