Babakul, which means ‘hippie’ in French, is the brain child of designer Kym Gold, founded in 2008. The former co-owner and co-founder of True Religion Brand Jeans blended her glamorous and relaxed beach lifestyle to create the contemporary, sophisticted brand. The pieces in every collection are timeless and seasonless and have been spotted on celebrities like Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus, and Cher.
The Malibu native, who was given the nickname ‘babakul’ by a business partner, has truly infused her lifestyle into the visionary styles seen in every Babakul collection. The brand embodies a lifestyle of travel, comfort, and attention-to-detail that every woman can relate to and find a piece that is all her own.
“Less is more is definitely the main inspiration behind the Fall 2010 collection,” Gold told us here at Style Seen Daily. The collection reflects a military and utilitarian style, with pieces like cargo pants, but infuses many romantic fabrics, like lace and silk, and feminine silhouettes.

The designer told us that her main inspiration is to bring “everything that I noticed was missing in the market and wanted to wear.”
Her pieces can easily be worn from day to night, with neutral colors and feminine silhouettes. The versatile, classic pieces blend city sophistication with the bohemian lifestyle of Gold, which makes the collection ideal for women with a “fast-moving, independent lifestyle,” just like Kym Gold. The Babakul Spring 2011 collection reflects many of the same styles seen in fall, but with a more Moroccan feel. The Traci cargo pant makes a comeback in an updated look.
Babakul’s take on the military trend comes comes to life with the ‘Traci’ cargo pant, available in slate and khaki for $160. These silk pants are lightweight and can easily transition from fall into a spring wardrobe. A silk blouse, like the ‘Gwendolyn’ by Babakul, can dress these pants up and create a more romantic look or pair them with the ‘Penelope’ cotton-cashmere kimono sleeve v-neck shirt for a casual, daytime look.
Another big element of the Babakul fall collection is knits of all colors and styles. The ‘Jessica’ jumpsuit, priced at $155, is one piece knit jumpsuit that is functional, yet fashionable, and a great wardrobe staple. Pair the jumpsuit with heels for a night out or with boots for a more casual, daytime look.

Casual, yet chic Babakul 'Penelope' cotton cashmere kimono sleeve v-neck shirt, which is priced at $115.
Babakul fashionistas can shop these hippie chic looks at stores like Fred Segal Fun, Ron Herman, and M. Frederic.
Soon customers will be able to take part in the full Babakul experience — The brand is opening it’s very own store inside of Fred Segal in Santa Monica Place in November 2010. The store will reflect designer Kym Gold’s Malibu lifestyle and fully immerse shoppers into the Babakul independent and glamorous way of life. We’ll make sure to bring coverage of that store opening to you here at Style Seen Daily.
