Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 collection gives classic McQueen designs a more feminine touch.
At Paris Fashion Week Spring 2011 the Alexander McQueen show made a strong impact on the fashion world for the brand’s newest creative director . Despite the untimely death of world renowned fashion designer Alexander Lee McQueen in February 2010, McQueen’s successor, Sarah Burton, is able to carry on the McQueen legacy through the women’s wear collection filled with classic McQueen silhouettes with a little bit of Burton’s own womanly touch.

Floral and natural elements played a large part in this collection, which is a big turn from the aggressive, dark feel of past McQueen collections.

The models all had fresh faces with little make up and intricate woven braids that added to the show’s romantic, earthy feel. Even the runway that was covered in mossy, wooden planks played into the natural feel of the collection.

Soft, white canvas coats, which opened the show, highlighted the feminine physique with an exaggerated focus on the hips. Burton put her own spin on nature by featuring several pieces that were constructed entirely of black leather ivy leaves.

Some dresses were elaborately detailed with feathers and other natural elements, like wheat. A butterfly print, which is similar to past McQueen designs, was even seen emerging from a dress made of hand-painted feathers.

The silhouettes of the collection also varied, while still remaining true to the well-known Alexander McQueen style. Some dresses were impeccably designed to accentuate a woman’s curves, while some were more soft and bohemian- like with cinch-waist belts.

Although the death of such a fashion legend is still felt throughout the industry, and will always be felt, Burton did an excellent job of keeping the brand Alexander McQueen alive. The feel of the Spring 2011 show was certainly a bit gentler and more feminine, but the classic McQueen ‘fantasy’ was still seen through the designs.

Although Burton is the new creative director for Alexander McQueen, she has been a part of the McQueen team for more than a decade. She spent the last 14 years as McQueen’s design assistant and right-hand woman as McQueen built the fashion house to what it is today. Burton seemed to find the perfect balance between her vision of romanticism and McQueen’s knack for dark, visionary designs with the Spring 2011 collection.
Some say your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and the wedding gown, well that’s arguably THE MOST important dress of your life. So, could you imagine having the public choose your gown? Well, that is exactly what Los Angeles TimesAssistant EditorAllison Kornberg has chosen to do, letting people just like you and I make the vote for her gown and other essential wedding decisions on her “Plan My Wedding” blog.
Style Seen Daily Co Founder Crystal Fambrini appeared on The KTLA Morning Show with Jessica Holmes to show Allison three options for wedding dresses and accessories. Wedding linesAalia Bridal Couture, Ullaa Maija Coutureand Angel Sanchez each provided a dress. Crystal went shopping at Westside Pavilion and The Los Cerritos Centerand pulled diamonds from Zales, pearls from Ben Bridge, and costume jewelry fromNordstrom.
It’s time to make some decisions, and Allison needs our votes to figure out which dress she will be wearing walking down the aisle.

Ivory Gown by Aalia Bridal Couture.
Couture Bridal Designer Nanaz Hatami created the gorgeous Aalia Bridal dress and was with us behind the scenes helping fit the models. She told us she got her inspiration of designing when she worked for SAKS in the 80′s in the wedding department and scoped out all the incredible pieces from various designers. Nanaz has had the honor to work with Valentino and Oscar De La Renta. Making elegant wedding gowns is not the only thing Nanaz does, evening wear and mother of the bride is also part of her line. Bride to be Allison described Hatami’s dress as “enchanting” and stated “even my grandma, the toughest judge of the whole brood, said it oozed my personality.” The couture gown is priced at $2500.
The petal embellished gown and jewels looked amazing on model Barbara. Accessories by Ben Bridge Jeweler, the necklace, Freshwater cultured pearl necklace 14K yellow gold priced at $499.00 and Freshwater Cultured Pearl Earrings 14K accented with cultured seed pearls, in 14K yellow gold priced at $199.00. Allison cannot go wrong with this look for her big day, it’s truly breathtaking.

Will Allison wear this dress by Ulla Maija Couture?
This uniquely crafted gown called ”Stephanie” is by designer Anna Maier of Ulla Maija Couture. Each dress is custom made for each bride. Allison loved how this gown was “three or four dresses in one depending on the angle you looked at it,”and told us she “melted in it” when she put it on. The beautiful draping and exquisite fabrics — dutch satin and italien taffeta– makes this gown very luxurious.
So, have you fallen in love with this gown? The Stephanie Gown is available at SAKS in Beverly Hills and the designer Anna Maier will be there in person on August 14, in case you are looking for a designer. The Stephanie is priced at $4,900.
And what girl doesn’t love a little sparkle, Crystal paired diamonds from Zales: The Diamond Store to this dress for an extra pop. Diamond teardrop earrings, priced at $2,400.
How about some flower power too, hand embroidered with Swarovski crystals this brooch completes the dress, also can go in brides hair.

Model Luba in a Angel Sanchez Gown.
“Simple yet elegant” Allison told us of the Angel Sanchez off white gown. The designer Angel Sanchez is know for his elegant designs and architectural flare, also keeping in mind a feminine glow with a touch of drama to each dress. It is a beautifully crafted piece of art made of fabrics. The dress is priced at $2,860.
We added some extra glow to this piece with accessories from Nordstoms. The Nadri chandelier earrings priced at $138 and Nadri Bangles priced at $100.
Celebrites like Eva Longoria, Brooke Shields and Salma Hayek are also fans of this designer for their big day, because of the way the dress celebrates a women’s body. Focusing on the structure of the dress and keeping in mind, “less is more.”
The catwalk for the 2009 autumn collection at Paris Fashion Week was a happy themed one. Models were smiling up and down the runway, something previously never really seen in Paris.
Stella McCartney‘s show was all smiles and full of supporters like her father, Sir Paul McCartney as well as her sister Mary both sat front row along with; Beth Ditto, Thandie Newton, Kanye West, Pink, Charlotte Casiraghi, Salma Hayek, and Francois-Henri Pinault.

McCartney showed delicate and beautiful cocktail dresses that put aside her typical sportier looks and let loose the “Stella Girl” as she put it.
Also shown were jumpsuits, knit sweaters and elegant cocoon coats with skinny belts – everything well tailored and “grown up” while maintaining the style she is known for which is simply and easy going unfussy style with sex appeal.
McCartney mentioned backstage that she liked to take things apart and then put them together again, as a result she used spliced tulle and silk as well as black lace floating down arms which was actually an illusion of sleeves.

McCartney proves that you can make desirable fashion while maintaining your ethics as a strict vegetarian, such as herself.
Stella’s refusals to work with leather and furs have previously been rumored to hinder the style of her shoes and bags – this year she turns that around – if it was ever even true. Her new collection has knee high boots in faux leather and knitted silk. Stella has succeeded in creating must have items that even PETA will approve of wearing. She has also rose above the previous gossip that she was “just a pop star’s kid” and developed real design chops and respect sans dear old dad.

Stella has a variety of collections in 2009 from her Adidas designs to the two perfumes to both dressy and casual clothes. Her flagship store in London has had a strong year in profits and supporters keep multiplying.

Hollywood Domino
Hollywood Domino is the original table game created in Hollywood and played by the stars. The classic game of dominos was given a new twist when A-listers such as Demi Moore, Penelope Cruz, and Charlize Theron began playing dominos with their own “house rules”, creating Hollywood Domino. February 2008 saw the first Hollywood Domino tournament in Los Angeles, where Charlize Theron was crowned domino champion.
