Make a break for spring a couple of weeks early, and infuse your beauty routine with a little citrus sunshine.   Peach, coral and an over-the-top pop of orange lips are a staple for this upcoming spring and summer seasons.  We get that this isn’t your everyday go-to lip shade, so we thought we’d run a brief tutorial on how to max out this vibrant and versatile look, starting today.   First—don’t be afraid—you will find the perfect for you hue of orange that will make you fall head over smoochy lips in love with this fun new trend.

Tricks of the trade:

Lay the right foundation. Prime your lips for all day staying power, and to ensure that the cheeky orange color stays put and doesn’t gravitate towards your teeth.

Find your match made in color heaven. Not every orange is for every girl.  If you’re fair and flushed—pink toned corals or peaches will be most flattering, and still be right on trend; if you’re a chic shade of olive or medium to dark skinned—you can go big and bold, and very, very orange.

By day or by night? All typical rules of lip intensity apply: for a perfect pout before the sun sets, look for sheer shades or shiny glosses.  Pair with a complimentary lip liner if needed to boost your color, but keep it on the mild side.  When headed out in the eve, pile on the creamy or matte, all out, opaque color.  Line your lips with foundation to keep your lines sharp and your color from bleeding.

All that being said—here’s our favorite celebrity approved looks and your best picks:

Leighton Meester. Sephora at The Oaks ($30, Raven).

Leighton Meester gets it right with a ruddy orange-red that’s a rousing success.  She keeps it fresh and neat with a touch of peach blush and neutral eyes.  Super chic.  We love this similar red-orange shade from Sephora at The Oaks ($30, Raven).

Jennifer Lopez. Bloomingdale’s at Santa Monica Place ($24, Love Devotion).

Jennifer Lopez makes coral look craze-worthy and pairs it with deep brown shades to take it out on the town.  We love this NARS version from Bloomingdale’s at Santa Monica Place, that’s along these same lines ($24, Love Devotion).

Scarlett Johanssen. Estee Lauder at Nordstrom in Westside Pavilion ($20, Orange Poppy).

Scarlett Johanssen shows off a bright crayon orange and highlights the look with matching blush and gold shadow for a glowing standing ovation.  We like this same orange from Estee Lauder at Nordstrom in Westside Pavilion ($20, Orange Poppy).

Stranger Change Her Lesley with Crystal Fambrini and the KTLA crew at Academy Optical at The Oaks Shopping Center.

Meet our Stranger Change Her Lesley of Moreno Valley. Leslie is a busy wife and mother of two boys, one of whom is autistic and requires extra care and time.  This wonderful mom wanted a make over to spice up her rare and very important date nights with her husband. What a lucky man!

But before the make over, Lesley had to stand in the “Stranger Chamber” at The Oaks Shopping Center to get shoppers opinions on her style and learn what people thought she should change.

Shooting KTLA's Stranger Change Her at The Oaks Shopping Center.

Check out our Stranger Change Her Lesley BEFORE:

It wasn’t difficult to find a vast variety of looks that suited her due to her amazing figure and magnetic personality. The very bubbly Lesley was open to anything and everything. Fortunately The Oaks has it all!

Stranger Change Her Lesley rocking her new look!

Crystal Fambrini and the stylist team agreed on a look that highlighted Lesley’s assets.  We went with a black silk top over a green-blue cami and a knee length skirt with a pleaded back from Forever 21. We topped it off with black booties for a sophisticated-chic feel. Francesca’s Collections is our go to for accessories because of  it’s amazing variety and taste. We went with black and gold accessories that included:  a ring, earrings, bangles, and a handbag.  An extra treat was metal -framed  Ray Ban sunglasses from Academy Optical used to complete the polished look.

Lesley at KTLA getting pampered by Sephora PRO artist Erik Soto. Sephora flew Erik in from New York Fashion Week to take part in this special Stranger Change Her.

Even though shoppers wanted longer hair, we thought a shorter look would better suite Leslie. Leslie’s new ultra stylish bob was done at Regis Hair Salon and her fresh face made up by Erik Soto, a Sephora PRO Beauty Team artist.

Let’s take  a look at Lesley’s before and after:

Stranger Change Her Lesley BEFORE and AFTER.

It was a blast helping Lesley with her fashion frenzy. She looked fabulous and appeared confident as she did a sassy cat walk onto the KTLA stage for her reveal.  The new look is icing on the cake for Lesley’s husband on date nights. You’re welcome hubby!

Thank you to The Oaks Shopping Center — Forever 21, Francesca’s Collections, Academy Optical, Papilio, Regis Salon, and Sephora for making this possible.

Angelina Jolie rocks the red lips.

The hottest accessory to your fall wardrobe?  Your bright red lips.  Maybe you’ve never dared to be so forward with your makeup, or maybe you aren’t sure that this timeless shade is really your color.  Whatever your qualms of the past–this season, give it a whirl—take a peek at our “how-to-pick-the-best-shade” tips and try it on.

Here’s our basic, red lips tips:

First, according to the “Lipstick Queen”, Poppy King, creator of the Lipstick Queen brand lipsticks,  the right red will make your hair, skin and eyes light up.  Try on lipstick with no other makeup on—if it is flattering with a naked face, it’s a winning shade.

Next—to really nail the raring-to-go red look and keep it modern—keep any other makeup you wear that day very minimal.  Keep your eyes simple and understated, and consider going without blush, or just with a hint of bronzer.

Last, remember to use a lip primer and, gasp, a lip liner to keep your lipstick from feathering or bleeding outside of your natural lip line.  Finish by lining lips lightly with concealer to keep your lipstick lines crisp and make the look really pop.

Now on to the fun part—the shopping:

Cool-Aid

A cool tone red from M.A.C at Los Cerritos Center ($14.50, MAC Red).

If you’re fair complected or have cool skin undertones—choose reds with blue or cool undertones as well.  Think berries, cherry red, plum reds and deep wine reds.  Here’s a one of our favorite cool undertoned lipsticks from M.A.C at Los Cerritos Center ($14.50, MAC Red).

Warm-Blooded

A warm toned red from Hourglass found at Sephora in Stonewood Center ($30, Raven).

If you have olive skin, or warm undertones, you’ll want to pick shades of red with….you guessed it, warm undertones.  These will have orange or brown highlights to them—like fire-engine red, brick or even poppy red.  Here are is a warm toned red from Hourglass found at Sephora in Stonewood Center ($30, Raven).

Classic Color

A neutral red from Clarins in Nordstrom at The Oaks ($24, Rouge Prodige).

Still not sure about rocking the red this fall?  Color combinations sound precarious?

Reach for the red that never goes out of style—what’s called a true red.  This is a neutral red that is universally flattering and most every brand has a version of it.  Approach any makeup counter and ask for their true red, they can point one out for you.   Here’s an example from Clarins in Nordstrom  at The Oaks ($24, Rouge Prodige).

Tadashi Shoji Gold Woven Dress, Bloomingdales, $328, Santa Monica Place.

Gold is on the rise, and we’re not talking about the stock market.  When it comes to fashion rules, make yours golden.

Tuck away the silver, for now, and break out the gold as it is in high demand for Fall 2010.  There are so many shades and styles to choose from, like an all out gold sequined dress to a gold shiny jacket to just a touch of gold to accent something. Pick up a little luxe for fall that will not break the bank.  Here’s some items that are sure to give you gold fever.

Get The Golden Glow

Try out a dress in a classic style, but all gold.  A bandage dress accents curves and holds you in.  When wearing an all gold dress, make sure to keep accessories simple and at a minimum.  Let the dress shine.  We like this Tadashi Shoji Gold Woven Dress, Bloomingdales, $328, Santa Monica Place (pictured above).

Gold Glitter Ballet Flats, GAP, $49.50, Westside Pavilion.

Follow The Golden Brick Road

A must have this Fall are gold shoes – from heels to flats.  Whether it’s gold hardware on your footwear for a little shine or an all out gold shoe to accent your outfit.  A pop of gold adds freshness and is a quick way to update your wardrobe.  Gold shoes look great with a basic outfit – gold heels with a monochrome dress, gold flats with your basic jeans.  We like these Gold Glitter Ballet Flats, GAP, $49.50, Westside Pavilion.
